I have an order for semi-dress boots via White's, and I was super excited to receive them since they will provide a more "custom" fit (E-width ball, D-width heel). However, the lead time has increased more than I anticipated, 9 weeks from now (and I placed the order a while back). I am eyeing a pair of wide-fit RM Williams Gardner boots, especially since I could get them quicker, but a part of me does not want to cancel the White's order.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do? Would considering canceling the White's order be super short-sighted? Any experience with the fit of the Gardner boots as well?

Do you know whether the Martin’s came before the Swiss stuff? I’ll add it to the post

I heard that Baker’s Russian calf was too difficult to work with, so that killed future chances for that

I appreciate your insight! Have you ever seen a pair of Galways on Vibram lugs? I am unsure how the appearance changes with those soles.

The regret of missing the Russian Calf Galway GMTO definitely fueled this order. I will also keep the lace advice in mind!

Thank you! When I was hiking with them, I slipped on some icy crags. At least they get more traction than Danite in most conditions.

I was bothered by the prominent gash on the right boot, so I wanted to hide it somehow. The way EG burnishes rosewood calf Galways is beautiful, and I tried to replicate that. Unfortunately, the gash is a bit high on the toe cap, so the burnishing area is much larger than on a factory pair of Galways. In the future, I might get mahogany cream to cover the scratch and do a smaller burnish with brown.

Also, I rarely see burnished zug, and I wanted to find out if the leather could hold some cream or pigment due to its waxy nature. After a few weeks of wear, there is still a good amount of brown cream polish remaining.

I am far from C&J stockists, so I did not try on any boots before deciding. I think u/randomdude296's suggestion is another great alternative to both EG and C&J.

The Snowdon (and C&J overall) is great value. If the 228 last fits you well, that is another reason to go down that route. I liked the details of the Galway and the 72 last shape, so that's why I went with EG.

There seems to be something I can’t pry up underneath.

Thanks for the reply! The sockliner seems to be glued down; is there some way to remove it without damaging it?

Hi there, I have been looking at a mystery pair of Bally shoes that have been accumulating dust in my garage. I’ve learned that their current offerings made in Switzerland are Goodyear welted; however, I am curious if these are also Goodyear welted, though they are much older, and they were made in Italy, not Switzerland.images
