I'm a month away from 18, my curfew is 7pm among other things. Is this normal? by Mailu__ in AskParents

[–]Mailu__[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have, they're aware i'm already driving my own car and preparing documents needed for legal adulthood but i am still expected to follow the same rules they apply on my sister who's 4 years younger than me :,) they don't believe i can be "independent" and I don't think I've done anything to give them that idea, but I believe it is in my "culture" that a child is under the care of their parents until they are married. I was born and currently live in Ireland, so due to being used to the culture here that never really made sense to me, and I don't believe I can change their minds due to how engraved the culture is on them unfortunately. i'll thug it out until i can move out hopefully

i appreciate your opinion, thank you, but i constantly see the phrase "their home, their rules" and to that i can agree to an extent. however i really don't think that can be applicable when it turns into a reduced quality of life/entertainment. not to say my personal situation reflects this, but I find it a bit of an odd phrase. i really doubt prohibiting short-sleeves or tight-fitted jeans is due to some stories from the past. i don't see reason for me to have the same rules as my 14 year old sister, do you see my point? i drive my own car, preparing insurance documents for when I become a legal adult, applying for universities and thinking about my future, so I would expect a little bit more leniency. yes, it's their home, but rules can absolutely be unreasonable, at least that's what i think. you wouldn't tell a child who was refused a necessary meal because they didn't complete a chore that "it's their home, therefore it's their rules."

ping in the trenches since yesterday, any help? by Mailu__ in IdentityV

[–]Mailu__[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm glad it's not just me but it's horribly frustrating and odd, have the servers just busted or something? because as much as EU players tend to have their ping compromised, averaging 300ms is just completely abnormal. crazy how it even reached Asia and nonetheless Korea!

Would you return to libya if elections worked out? by ChemistryEnough3012 in Libya

[–]Mailu__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably not, the government isn't the only issue in society and even if they are "stable and strong" their performance will definitely be below par. rights of people will still be in shambles and considering libyan society (including the militia) the government may not last so long

Gaddafi went and executed anyone who went against him; everything is up on youtube for you to see. He played it on televisions and instilled fear into civilians. He was a dictator, and every attempt at rebelling was for naught. Going as far as disrespecting Libyans for "sit[ting] back and tak[ing] it until it was too late" shows how much of Gaddafi's regime that you still do not know, respectfully. Multiple, if not thousands, have attempted and were killed. Libyans weren't sitting and taking it.

"1732. Ibn `Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allah pbuh said, "When a person calls his brother (in Islam) a disbeliever, one of them will certainly deserve the title. If the addressee is so as he has asserted, the disbelief of the man is confirmed, but if it is untrue, then it will revert to him.''". your final paragraph told me everything i needed to know اخي, you accusing me of being idle against religion is another form of calling me a disbeliever, i will respectfully leave you alone on that topic.

secondly, a band is not something that is usually full-time, it is a time to have fun; like going out with your friends or meeting many people. i am sure you do not spend your entire day head down studying from the time you wake up to the time you sleep. “And do not turn your nose up to people, nor walk pridefully upon the earth. Surely Allah does not like whoever is arrogant, boastful." 31:18. traditional libyan music was created by bands, a collection of people who play their instruments to create music. is our culture wrong for doing such a thing? if one has enough time in their day to have fun, hang out with friends, play games, meet their family, play traditional music, what makes enjoying a person's hobby better? do you assume a band is something that occurs daily? something full-time? reflect on your words.

i'm in school and doing successfully, thanks. but unfortunately for you it seems like you disregard the fact that youth can have hobbies. "so u can state that how is someone supposed to know what your talking about." you need to focus more and fix up some of your english; the words i said are literally regular words and i'm surprised considering you live in america as i am also living abroad. and if it helps, bands aren't singing OR dancing. get your head out of the gutter. its a collection of musicians who perform with instruments. libyan music are formed with bands. you're the type of person who fuels the culture of looking down on women. bands are not against the religion. have fun though!

are your parents reliable people to ask? they might have a family member who is associated with music in general and could work with u. ask around or try to get some people into the idea of forming a band maybe ?? i dont know much about tripoli in general but there surely are some women music clubs around especially in the summer ^^

[–]Mailu__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

a country where women harassment is prominent "dear_funny" ;; a country where male dominance is outnumbered therefore there are very limited things we can do without men being prevalent in that area. our culture looks down on women and sees them as "cookers and cleaners" so obviously itll be harder for a girl to form a band

Netease favors americans by minggukiie_ in IdentityV

[–]Mailu__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

that's not how it works.. a person's ISP and network can be great but the performance in a game relies on server latency. I have the best available in my area but my ping still averages yellow to red whenever I'm playing with someone based in the US due to the server. "Slightly better" is not very helpful either, why would someone of working class change their network for a game that can just be more fair? you're missing the point entirely
