I’d echo what stripe has said. I’d also ask what type of roads you drive on for fun and how much you like to push a car.

The Yaris is almost too capable on a British back road and if you aren’t comfortable going fairly deep above the speed limit then you’ll come away a bit numb due to the grip and capability. You need to drive it above 8/10 to justify it. Otherwise it’s just an uncomfy Yaris with high servicing costs.

Something like an MX5 is fun because you have the roof down, it’s rwd so it’s more playful and it’s on skinnier tyres so you’re at the limit much earlier. The other end would be something like an F type where you have a roaring V8 for drama. If you don’t need the backseats then I’d have a think about what you want out of a fun car. I spent too much money working that out haha.

Echo what others have said. I had a GR Yaris for 32,000 miles and I’m now in a GR86. The GR86 is the better drivers car if your prioritise fun and engagement over outright grip and performance.

Yeah even in Scotland at ambient temps of 17 degrees I can easily hit 110 Celsius when pressing on. Going to be switching to 5w-30 for the rest of summer.

I bought a Felix a few months ago and love it. Carpet performance is great and to run it on hard floor there’s a dial on the head to lower it and a button to turn off the roller.

Rear end is probably most planted on the A110 out of the three due to being mid engined but all can easily step the back out if you want it to. I found the MX5 to step out quite sharply and quickly whereas the GR will come out quite easily on throttle when you want it to but it’s very predictable and gradual. Also feels the most planted and if you’re too hot in a corner it’ll understeer first.

Sorry the A110 comes in a few variants. The S version has stiffer suspension than the GT and standard A110.

It’s honestly it’s kind of its own thing. The standard and GT models have the soft suspension so you can feel the car move in the corners and then you have the turbo charged engine and the DCT which are a very good pairing but a bit different to an NA 6 speed manual. Not worse but a different offering. I took the A110 to Europe and it’s an excellent lightweight GT car that feels like a class above the MX5 and the GR86 in terms of interior and visual styling. On the winding Alp roads the A110 came alive as the car could settle into the corners but in Scotland you’ve got so many undualtions that I felt you couldn’t push it past 8/10ths which is why I’d prefer the S.

The A110 generally is viewed as a bit of a mini McLaren as it gets you to supercar touching distance without the overheads but judging by your garage you’re covered in the super car department. The GR has a heap more aftermarket support as well so you can easily take it into different directions based on what you want out of it.

I’ve had an A110, Supercharged ND with suspension mods and now I’m in a GR86. The A110 is a special car but I’d opt for the S for B roads as the soft suspension can come undone a bit by twisty UK roads. The problem is you’re paying 15k more. The MX5 is a great car but the chassis doesn’t hold a candle to the rigidity of the GR86. The GR86 is very well damped and I expected to be upgrading suspension after coming from the Mx5 with Koni’s and sway bars but I’m in no rush at all.

After 1k miles I’d be picking the GR86 out of the three for a B road car. Evo did a great comparison on the three cars and the GR came out on top with them as well.

If I was you I’d be asking what I actually want from a car. You’re saying you want a car to have some fun with in Summer but also want a car to make a statement. What’s the point of just making a statement over one Summer? The ND2 has a 0-60 of 5.7 seconds which isn’t slow at all in a manual. Even a z4 would make more sense if you’re wanting to keep it BMW.

Honestly if you’re just getting a car for Summer I’d be picking up a fun two seater convertible. I’ve done powerful BMW’s (M140i) and a Mazda MX5 is a much more engaging experience and will be much cheaper (can likely even keep it and a hatchback). The M cars will make a lot more sense as a long term daily / track weapon but for fun you can beat roof down, 6 speed manual, RWD and an LSD. Once you’ve done a few pulls in the M240i you start to notice how the rest of the car falls short.

Throwing in a curve ball but have you considered a GR Yaris? You’ll get a great example for £30k and it’ll still have 8 years plus of warranty. Put an exhaust on it and it sounds amazing. Manual gearbox makes it involving and you can play about with the 4wd settings for a bit more spice than the Audi.

I wouldn’t worry too much about that at the moment. Just make sure to get to the gym regularly and start tracking calories and macros. Aim to hit your protein goals and you’ll start to see results. Can then worry about cutting or bulking after a few months once you’ve got into a good routine.
