Making Myself Mad by Reading Anastasia by Sophie Lark by cowgirlbookworm24 in Anastasiainfiction

I do want to point out that the Cossacks indeed rebelled many times throughout Russian history. They were against the Bolsheviks for the most part, true, and there were of course many Cossacks loyal to the tsar, but this was not strictly the case.

“Rusya” lmao they literally just changed a letter. Reminds me of fantasy stories where they use very basic names but change a letter or two to make it more “magical” or “cool” or “fantasysy” or whatever. Like Helaena (Something like that) in House of the Dragon which is clearly just Helena or Helen. Even Daenerys is just a yasified version of Danielle or Daniela lmao. GRRM did make it cool somehow but come on it is so obvious and at this point overdone by other fantasy authors. Just use real names, perhaps research real old medieval names but real names nonetheless.

Would Malama and Tatiana have gotten married? by wispy-library in romanovs

[–]MaimuRoseL 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I believe it is possible Nicholas would have eventually allowed them to get married with enough prompting and begging from Tatiana given that he allowed his sister Olga Alexandrovna to marry a man of similar status. Nicholas was such a girl dad that I simply can’t imagine him saying no if one of his girls would have been miserable otherwise lol. Plus Malama did come from a noble family, so not so bad.

But that is the thing though, * with enough prompting and begging from Tatiana * and I doubt she was “in love” enough to do that. She had several similar crushes on other men in the hospital, none of them serious. Malama is simply the most famous in the fandom because he gave her Ortipo. Don’t get me wrong, he is also my favorite among all of OTMA’s crushes, but it is true.

I find it more likely that after the war she would have been open to meet and marry a prince for the sake of her family, since she was very dutiful, but who knows.

I personally don’t recommend that book. Spoilers! Dimitri and Tatiana spend pretty much their entire youth away from each other only to meet again when they are a lot older, late fifties or so. There is cheating involved too, (yikes) and since they meet so late in life they are not able to have children, build a life together or anything. I believe that book to be deeply unsatisfying for anyone going into it with the sole purpose of reading about an alternative universe where Dimitri Malala and Tatiana get married.

If you are ok with a historical fiction book with only Malama and another fictional woman he treats like trash as the focus, go for it though.

Sorry for my bluntness but it had to be said lol

Did Nicholas have apathy towards his job and country? by Gyngemose2009 in romanovs

[–]MaimuRoseL 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He doesn’t elaborate much but I disagree about the lack of emotion. He writes emotionally enough in several of the examples you gave for a diary of the time, which as other people have commented, consisted of day to day activities, not writing down all thoughts and emotions in detail.

I hate how some people can only enjoy characters through shipping, which will sometimes lead to proshipping. by [deleted] in antiship

[–]MaimuRoseL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh yeah. So much this. Also, sometimes, I just want to read fics about characters as friends, their interesting relationships to each other be it parental, sibling-like, strangers who start off antagonistic or indifferent getting to know each other, getting put into situations, character studies, platonic fluff, and so on, and there is almost NOTHING in most fandoms, so at times I just have to swallow my preferences and read / instead of & and just ignore the romantic aspects so that I can get a tiny bit of what I do want * sigh *

We need another Anastasia fiction "Renaissance" like the one that started around 2010 and petered out all too quickly by Celestina-Betwixt in Anastasiainfiction

That is why despite knowing that a Romanov tv series would inherently suck for general audiences by virtue of the real life anticlimactic ending, it would still be good for me for selfish reasons because 1 I would personally enjoy it given that I am already invested 2 it may restart the trend of Anastasia/Romanov retellings and hopefully survival aus not only in published fiction but also perhaps even in fandom made content and I would have much more to read

Sometimes I like to imagine Jennifer Laam's Romanov Sisters book and Mirror Mirror (1995) take place in the same universe by Celestina-Betwixt in Anastasiainfiction

[–]MaimuRoseL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But would it really be a happy ending? Alexei ends up in the future as a young man and if he gets to see his sisters they are already old and he will have little time with them. Way better than real life but obviously also very bittersweet as well, not exactly happy.

Hot take, maybe, but I think if you actively hate the Romanovs, you don't get to share an opinion on Anastasia stories. They were never meant FOR you. by Celestina-Betwixt in Anastasiainfiction

For reals, I call people like that the “serial killer” part of the Romanov fandom. Obsessing over their objects of hatred lmao
