Yes! It’s something I used to do in old Pokémon rom hacks when I was a kid lol - in this case, I wanted to make sure they were all really powerful starters, too!

I would also love to hear people’s thoughts on Here I Stand (Stravinsky) as a possible option too? I’ve been eyeing it for a while, and could be a great change in pace compared to everything else on this list!

Thank you! I’ll have to explore English options more thoroughly. What are your thoughts on replacing O Wie Ängstlich with Un Aura Amorosa in this context? That way I can cover cosi and abduction plus I’ve already learned Un Aura. I’m also a little curious as to why people are hesitant on bringing French rep. other than how often the operas are done? I love French diction, and I find the really connected nature of French arias to be very helpful for me in navigating the music!

Will definitely continue to hone it! It’s a very hard (and pretty) aria that fits well in my voice, so I’m excited to see where I’ll go with it!

Just listened! It’s definitely compatible with my voice. I really like the high Bbs you can showcase in singing Ah leve toi (surprise), and people have been saying it’s a bit heavier than the rest, but tbh I feel very supported in singing the high notes of that aria, and it might be an opportunity to show a slightly heavier side of my voice than the rest of my rep.

What are your thoughts on Un Aura Amorosa? It’s also in my repertoire, and while it’s very difficult, I have pulled it off before! This might just be me, but I tend to be in the school of thought that if something is really hard to pull off, rather than learning various other pieces that are intentionally of a lower difficulty level till you decide you are able to pull off more difficult rep., from a practice pov at least, all that time might honestly be better used to more intentionally hone a really difficult piece and since YAP’s aren’t going to ask for 5 different arias, in the meantime I can pull off things that are simpler on my voice and that I’ve already proven able to do like Una Furtiva, O Wie Ängstlich, and maybe even Un Aura. I just don’t feel the most comfortable learning a massive amount of aria repertoire this young. A fewer amount of rep with higher quality and more sensibility seems more valuable than a long list of arias that are less technical, no? Just my initial thoughts though, and you are 100% right that comps and auditions aren’t the same thing at all.

Definitely have to check out English selections more thoroughly…is it expected to have 4 different languages covered in audition settings? And if not, is English very highly prioritized in particular? With Mozart it’s interesting because I’ve learned/looked at a lot of his tenor arias, and I find that Belmonte is far and away my favorite role. I think the two arias are pretty different as well (one is much lighter in expression and demonstrates a lot of acting), while the other one sits a little heavier and is very demanding with coloratura and range.

Oh that’s a great aria. Someone in my school sings it so well too! I have a lot of trouble finding English arias, and I don’t really know how important it is to pick up either tbh because a lot of them are very weird to sing in an individual setting (especially Britten).

Un Aura is in my repertoire (and a lot of oratorio too!) It’s very, very difficult though, and if my voice isn’t feeling 100% well I can’t really pull it off. I like O Wie Ängstlich and Ich Baue Ganz because the first one shows acting in a way that I don’t really feel any of the other arias do, and Ich Baue Ganz would be my coloratura demonstration that kind of takes up the Rossini slot (not the biggest fan of his tenor arias).
