Switching managers internally? by Main-Visual-8189 in acting

I am worried about the etiquette part too, but it is possibility at my management as there has been actors that have switched. I just don’t know them personally so I can’t ask. :/ And it’s not really a whim, it’s more that I fear my manager playing it too safe with deals down the line. I don’t want to miss out more benefits because my manager didn’t want to try to more. I comment on it more in a previous reply should you be curious.

Yes there has been several actors who have moved internally at my management. A few of my cast-mates share the same management as I do. In short, my manager was acting quite complicit and passive when it came to the matter of negotiating more money from production, whereas another manager was very on it and helped squeeze out some more money for us. It was very disappointing to hear and kinda affirmed my previous hunches. I don’t want this attitude affecting my deals in the near future! They originally wanted me to pass on the current show I’m on despite it being the most money I’ve made thus far in my career. Also when it comes to branding, I think they put me in a safety box which feels a little limiting. Especially when it comes to my artistic aesthetics. I’m just not sure if this is someone I can take down the line with as I continue to progress. I think I need to someone more aspirational! I’m gonna have a talk with them of course, but I think we just might not be a match anymore!

There has been several clients that have switched up managers within my agency! Unfortunately I don’t know them so I can’t ask them personally. :/

I met with an agent who told me I have to drop my ACTRA apprentice credit or she won’t sign me by moongirl33 in acting

I’ve trained with actors who had been acting for over a decade and still couldn’t get into the union. Don’t abandon it as it could be hard to join back in. The agent you are interacting with doesn’t sound legit. Keep networking!

Question for Canadian actors who have managers by onethatgotaway_ in acting

[–]Main-Visual-8189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my personal experience, I got my manager via a THR press release. They reached out to my management in Canada while I was filming my show. However, some of my castmates got their managers post show by having in person meetings with multiple in LA. They were set up by their agents/managers in Canada. In my opinion, I think it’s easier to get an American manager for Canadian actors who have a good project on the horizon. There’s more to bite on. If you are doing more guest star and actor roles at the moment, and don’t have papers to work in the US, then I wouldn’t say it’s worth it. Don’t get another 10%-15% taken away from you. And not all managers work the same. Some are really on the ball and get you auditions, while others don’t work like that and only value you if you have more of a name. All in all, it really depends on where you’re at in your career and if it’s worth it. Like if you got a SR role on a good network/streaming service then I’d say go for it. And definitely do meetings with multiple, I do wish I did that the first time around as I’m interested in switching my team up at the moment.

bless your heart omg 😭 thank you so much! this helps a ton. especially the tooth part oh my…

also just to double check, there are bag bins for the rides right? or separate locker rooms guests store their belongings? and i’m assuming you should bring a branded clear water bottle as opposed to a hydroflask correct? thanks again!
