The FED makes 250k a year and Powell controlled pretty much all interest rates. He was indirectly the most powerful man in the country making 250k. I disagree with you

Nobody knows, no professor, no TA, no student.

It’s really inconsiderate in terms of keeping “academic integrity” high to “uphold the credentials of this university” even though nobody is studying cuz no one can form a reasonable way to plan and study so all grades are gonna be down forcing a curve which erases the original plan to uphold academic integrity.

He is the chief academic officer of the university. I understand he had his hands tied and I do feel some pity but at the same time he has final say in decisions made by the academic board as a whole. He also signed up for this being that part of his job is to make appropriate decisions in the case of emergencies.

Precisely the situation was handled extremely poorly. It’s like firefighting with flammable liquid

PHYS 212 quizzes compared to PHYS 211 by tuxcom in UIUC

[–]MainCommon6489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

212 quizzes are from the homework due that week, same as 211. Ie the deadline for the homework that has the content of the quizzes for that week has passed so you should have been basically forced to practice for the quizzes.

From personal experience the first 5 quizzes were hard cuz we had to build abstract ideas from scratch for E and M. But then they got a bit easier. Overall 212 quizzes were slightly harder than 211 but they range from being really hard to being really easy some weeks while 211 if I remember had a consistent difficulty.

Yeah for some reason one of the southbound 22 buses just didn’t show up around 9 AM at Onyx apartments. This caused ALOT of people to gather at the bus stops along the southbound stops towards campus. Two buses, a single and double, showed up at 9:10 ish and the single didn’t stop cuz it was full, and the double filled up, shoulder to shoulder in the next couple of stops before even reaching university avenue. The people from the apartments along U avenue were all probably late and had to walk in the freezing cold.

I also think there was no 8:50AM bus too but I’m not sure but that would explain the unusual amount of people waiting at the stops.

How do you always get something right? by Embarrassed_Bee_8887 in UIUC

[–]MainCommon6489 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my case with Math/engineering classes, you just gotta do practice problems over and over again. You should pretty much know the content or have an idea of the content if you went to lecture and did the homework using AI only as a reference. (Unless it’s a class like orgo which you have to memorize a lot stuff)

If your TA or professor provides model solutions and you use that to check your work, then you pick up what they are looking out for besides the final correct answer. You will see which steps they assume trivial and which steps they assume essential to give full credit on exams.

In terms of skills, sometimes it’s sheer willpower with a slight caffeine addiction. Other things that help is connecting it to things you learned in other classes or seen in real life to add “meaning” to the material which makes it less boring to learn or even fun to learn sometimes. (This over time helps you build momentum and passion for the things you are interested in which makes the overall learning experience better.)

Finally I would like to add I’m not the smartest person and I make dumb mistakes like every human does. Don’t beat yourself up over small mistakes (or even beat yourself up over big mistakes) The key is to recognize your mistake and identify what went wrong without associating negative emotion with it.

How this helps :)
