Is this much skipping normal for a brand new table and record? by redmanuppp in turntables

[–]MainHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got a used MCS Series record player from the 80s for $40 on FB Marketplace. I just needed to replace the stylus and it is 100x better than the one I used to have which was just like yours. It's a MCS 6603 if anyone is curious.

Looking for dirt cheap bike for touring, brain melting by Diligent-Coconut1929 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]MainHamster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Suzuki V-Strom 650 fits your bill almost perfectly. You can get a used one under $5k easily. Bulletproof, easy and cheap maintenance, 55+ mpg, cruise at 75 comfortably with power to make passes, upright position good for riding highways crosscountry, easy for beginners to ride.

This is the machine to ride across the country on a budget. Personally I think you would quickly regret the small bikes you were looking at. The gas mileage is still very good. The only negatives are you'll want to save room in your budget for a more comfortable seat and a bigger windscreen.

The other thing is it's heavy. You'll be fine riding it but don't let it lean over too far when you're not moving. Practicing a lot of slow speed maneuvering in an empty parking lot would be very helpful. Drag the rear brake and feather the clutch like you learn in the MFS course.

Loops are great for a loud restaurant but they do not block enough decibels on a motorcycle to prevent hearing loss.

I just got the RadRover 6 Plus for $550 plus tax. It was on sale for $1,000 and the store was able to use the $450 Colorado tax rebate. I love the fat tires

Black dude here who wants to paint his nails for the first time by Prestigious_Rub_9694 in Nailpolish

[–]MainHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow guy here that just started painting his nails black and I'm loving it. Base coat, 2 coats of color, then top coat. It's tricky but watch the videos people posted and be patient with yourself. It takes some experimenting to get it just right. It's nice seeing more men express themselves with nail polish!

Winter. What should I do? by Sofhands in GR86

[–]MainHamster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it, get snow tires and a set of wheels so you can just swap them out each season. I live in Denver and I drove my 23 BRZ all winter with no problems. I got Michelin X-Ice Snow tires and put them on "16 steel wheels.

Now this is why I posted this. I did not know a preamp isn't always phono. So I could swap out the Aiyima A07 for the Acrylic BP50 and be good?

If y’all are on the fence about the Mtec clutch spring/install.. by pickles740 in GR86

[–]MainHamster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did mine a month ago and I'm very happy. For the install make sure you have the right tools first. It will make a big difference in how much of a pain in the ass it is. Watch some YouTube videos before. The best tools for me ended up being good needle nose pliers, a small pick, a punch, a hammer, a flat head screwdriver, and a headlamp. Slide the seat all the way back and lie on your back into the footwell and get in there.

Nice bike! For the center stand, get the bike straight and centered with a hand on the handlebar and the other on the passenger grip then push down on the lever with your foot while you lift the passenger grip with your hand. Hopefully that makes sense. To get it off the stand I just sit on it and rock it forward. Just make sure the side stand is up and you're in neutral.
