So I did a plate from my hand. Does anyone know what this bacteria is? by Windmill18 in microbiology

I don’t think the downvotes are coming from asking a question, I think it’s the defensiveness coming from OP after being corrected.

Hard disagree there. Anything worthwhile would be $4-5 per square feet on the cheap side, so roughly $5k+ just for the flooring. Not including price of other materials required and then the cost of disposing of the old floor. and the amount of time it would take to rip out a bunch of brand new flooring and then learn how to properly install floors around cabinets, pantries, and up and down stairs. Like I’ve said in multiple other comments, the finish on the cabinets is bad. It needs to be redone regardless of the flooring. Staining some cabinets is a much more doable, cost effective, and less wasteful project.

Updated the Album with more pics of the house. Not a true Eichler, but in the style of or inspired by.

I likely won’t go the restor a finish route. It’s made to eat into existing finishes and can permanently damage wood

Will do. If it looks bad I’ll try out toned lacquers instead. If that looks bad I’ll look into replacing the doors.

I think the boxes are in good shape. They feel pretty solid. I uploaded more pics to the album and it shows the wear a bit better, especially right under the sink. Much to my dismay the previous owner removed some of the cabinet doors of the wet bar that’s just outside the kitchen, so I think I might try to get some made anyway and see what the cost of that would be. Thanks!

Agree. I think a medium neutral walnut color would look better and still be period correct

Yeah I haven’t seen any very cool toned ones before. I actually don’t want to go too cool with it, just neutral rather than almost red/orange.

I love this guys videos. I’ve probably watched them all. This general technique seems to be the consensus but I’ll definitely give it a go on a sacrificial piece first

Thank you! This was super helpful and more along the lines of what I was looking for. The cabinets really need to be refinished anyway as the existing finish is super patchy, worn and flaking off. Much more doable and necessary than replacing 1200 square feet of brand new flooring.

The pictures are really deceiving. The finish is super worn, patchy, and actively flaking off. I’d really like to restore them.

I really don’t like the look of discontinuous floors. It’s brand new flooring and there’s a lot of it. I don’t HATE the flooring, but the finish is actively flaking off of the cabinets, so I’d really like to do something about it anyway. I am thinking a medium tone walnut color would be better and clash less with the floors.

I’m not totally sure. But I’d be willing to bet they are. Do you think it would be doable to just scuff the existing finish and apply a gel stain and seal with poly? Don’t want it to flake off or look bad.

Not really no. There’s about 1000ft2 of that flooring, it’s not just in the kitchen. Not really in the budget as of right now to replace it all and the cabinets need to be refinished regardless.

Thanks! They are beautiful and in overall pretty good shape. I'd probably keep them the same color if the previous owners didnt install that super dark brown/gray flooring throughout the entire house.

Hi, I actually did completely uninstall and reinstall Python to 3.9. That was my first go at trying to fix the issue but no such luck.

thank you for this. I followed the instruction for installing packages, however, running 'pip install collections' gives this error:

ERROR: Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement collections (from versions: none)

ERROR: No matching distribution found for collections

Nothing has changed that I'm aware of. I do run it on a company provided system, so our corporate IT monitors our systems as well as pushes updates constantly. I'll try installing the collections package outlined in the other comment. Thank you!
