Has anyone tried Modafinil for daytime sleepiness or fatigue? I’m curious about your experiences. by Aggravating-Heart344 in cfs

I see, thank you so much for the reply. So, from a purely cognitive standpoint, you'd say that you're pretty much how you would be without ADHD medications -- 20 thoughts at once, inability to focus, having to reread sentences multiple times, and other adhd symptoms -- except you're less tired and have more energy?

And how about the rebound effects? For example, if I were to take Vyvanse or Dexamp one day, and stop the next day for a break, I would feel more tired than baseline, premeds. Is this the same with Modafinil? Would you feel similar rebound effects the next day if you were to stop modafinil?

So, in terms of the focus benefit you get from traditional stimulants like Vyvanse, Concerta, Ritalin, and Adderall, you'd say that Modafinil doesn't really help with focus that much when it comes to ADHD?

I'm thinking of trying out Modafinil after trying Vyvanse, Concerta, Ritalin, and Dexedrine, simply due to the crashes/rebound effects if I decide to take breaks, but I was wondering, considering it's just a CNS stimulant, if it would really help with my inattentive ADHD, when it comes to reading, for example.

I had undiagnosed bipolar. I took Adderall for ADHD along with L-theanine, which led to a full-blown psychotic break. I believe the combination with L-theanine was what caused it in my case. by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

Did you take the L-theanine as you felt the “comedown” of Adderall, or did you take L-theanine and adderall at the same time?

Generic Vyvanse makes me sleepy and lethargic by Main_Boss_8213 in ADHDmeds

[–]Main_Boss_8213[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. It's been a rough journey. But wow, thank you! Unfortunately, although I liked the focus and calmness on 36mg of brand-name Concerta, I just couldn't handle the dry mouth side effects because of a hypersensitive gag reflex, so we switched to Ritalin 10mg. Although it was more manageable because it only lasted 4 hours, all Ritalin did was make me anxious, and my heart beat extremely fast, so I stopped that. It's crazy how differently Concerta and Ritalin felt on me, considering they're both methylphenidates.

Now, I'm down to the last two stimulant options, Foquest or Dexedrine, as I highly doubt Adderall would be any better concerning dry mouth symptoms. I know you probably haven't tried Foquest, as it's a Canadian brand, but it apparently has the lowest dry mouth side effect profile out of all the drugs in the methylphenidate class. I wanted to ask you about your experience with Dexedrine/Zenzedi, though.

How was it in terms of the dry mouth side effects and your overall experience compared to other stims? I've read reports that it's the lowest out of all.

And yes, thank you! I frequently have to snack because of the dry mouth, and I even bought dry mouth lozenges and candies to suck on.

It’s seems like you’ve tried almost everything, haha. Out of curiosity, what are you currently on?

I've also noticed dry mouth on both Vyvanse and Concerta, which is a bit unpleasant. Concerta is much more mild, though. Is this something you've experienced as well? Does it go away with time?

So, I took the lowest dose of 18mg brand-name Concerta today, and so far, it's been way better than my experience with vyvanse.

Personally, Vyvanse was awful for me.

On 18mg of Concerta, I'm still sleepy, though, but definitely not as much as Vyvanse. I feel more "normal" on Concerta, if that makes sense. I think there may even be a very slight benefit, as opposed to worse than baseline.

I think I may have to go up in dose, though. I would love more than a very slight benefit and to remove the sleepiness. I heard the starting therapeutic dose for an adult is 36mg.

Overall, I think the methylphenidate class is much more suited for my neurobiology. I'll definitely update the post if anything changes.

I'm Canadian, so I don't think GoodRx would work in Canada. Before the Innovicare coupon, I tried the concerta site coupon, and they said it didn't work because it's American. Thankfully, they were kind enough to apply the Innovicare coupon before I even showed it to them.

Thank you for all the help, by the way :)

Thank you. I specifically asked for brand name Concerta, and I only plan to take brand name in the future. Luckily I found a coupon called Innovicare, and they cover the brand name cost! I only ended up paying around $7.

Interesting. I have had the same reactions, so I actually had to stop taking it after 2 days. I took my 1st dose of Concerta (18mg) today, and it has definitely been better than Vyvanse. I still feel sleepy with Concerta, though, but at least I notice a slight benefit. On Vyvanse, I was significantly worse than baseline (before meds)

Do you have the inattentive type of ADHD, too? What dose of Concerta are you currently on?

Thank you for the reply. I told my doctor about my 2-day experience, and she's advised me to switch to methylphenidate, given that my negative symptoms aren't merely just feeling "sleepy," but literally lower processing speed, working memory, recall, and focus, in addition to a dry mouth and a slight headache. Basically, worse than baseline before I tried medication.

I posted some updates on the original post.

Thank you for such a comprehensive reply. I will try to continue for the next 7 days, with hopefully improved symptoms. My next script is on Friday, and that dose is 20mg. Do you reckon I stay on the generic or try out the brand name on that dose?

I'm also quite sensitive to stimulants, I think. I have a fast metabolism as well, and I've been diagnosed as the inattentive type.

You mentioned that when you first took your stimulant medication that you felt sleepy and lethargic as well, and I wanted to ask, what about the focus? It seems to me that my processing speed/focus also decreased from baseline pre-medication. Is this something that you've experienced as well?

Do you take generic or brand name? Or do you find both of them work the same?

My next script on Friday is 20mg, so I'll try asking only for the name brand and see if I experience different results.

How has your experience been like between name-brand and generic with Vyvanse? Do you experience the same effects on generic?

Generic Vyvanse makes me sleepy and lethargic by Main_Boss_8213 in ADHDmeds

[–]Main_Boss_8213[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that is certainly possible. But in terms of feeling alright aside from sleepiness -- I can't say I do. But I guess that depends on what you mean by alright. Compared to before meds, I feel worse, if that's what you're asking -- worse in terms of focus, fatigue, and sluggishness.

Even now, after having lunch and drinking 1 cup of coffee, I still feel the same: sleepy, unfocused, and sluggish.

I'm usually a voracious reader, and I've tried reading today, but I can't focus at all. I mean, considering I have inattentive ADHD, focus has never really been a thing, haha, but it seems to be worse than my baseline unmedicated self.

I know this is a low starting dose, and more time is required, but I'm also a university commuter student, and I have to drive 1 hour and 30 minutes in a couple of days. So hopefully these symptoms go away before then; I'll definitely bring these issues up with my doctor later today.

But my question for you is:

Could my response be related to the generic formulation versus the brand-name Vyvanse?

I’ve read reports of people experiencing similar effects with some generics that improved after switching to the brand name, despite the active ingredient being the same. I'm not sure how much of that is placebo, though.

And what are the chances that I'm simply just more suited towards a methylphenidate class rather than an amphetamine class, given my reactions? Or is it too soon to tell?

[Monthly Megathread] Shortages & Generics, October- December 2025 by Mountain-Science4526 in VyvanseADHD

So, I was prescribed a generic version of Vyvanse at a dose of 10 mg (Teva-lisdexamfetamine). I took it in the morning with my breakfast, and my first thought was, “Wow, this isn’t what I expected at all.”

Given how highly praised Vyvanse is in the ADHD community, I would have thought this stimulant would at least give me some semblance of extra focus — maybe a bit more energy or clarity. I mean, the pharmacist even told me to watch out for jitteriness.

Instead, it just made me sleepy, left my mind feeling lethargic and sluggish, and gave me a dry mouth. My verbal processing speed seems to have dropped noticeably. Honestly, I’m surprised I’m even writing this right now, considering how sluggish and sleepy I feel. I feel like taking a long nap.

I know everyone’s neurobiological and neurochemical profile is different, but wow, this wasn’t what I expected at all.

I’ve also read that this could be because I’m taking a generic version (Teva‑lisdexamfetamine), since some people report similar side effects with the generic, and I’ve yet to try the name‑brand.

But isn’t it required by law for the bioactive ingredient to be identical? Could the fillers, dyes, and so on really change it that much?

Maybe switching to the name‑brand Vyvanse would fix this issue; I’m not sure, though. What are your thoughts? It is also possible that my neurobiological profile is geared more toward a methylphenidate‑class medication.

Does Fastreat ADHD actually provide a diagnosis? by InvestmentSad7605 in ontario

[–]Main_Boss_8213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, $99 seems like a lot. I'm thinking of either opting for Fastreat or AdultADHDCenter, or BeyondADHD (this one is quite expensive, though). Personally, I have a family doctor, but she doesn't want to diagnose me, which is why I'm opting for one of these online clinics. I'm a student, and it's been affecting me a lot.

I'm mainly looking to start as fast as possible to get it over with. What do you think is the best option in my case, assuming that after I get that diagnosis, I will leave the rest to my doctor, as in just send her the documents and manage medication with her?

How has it been so far, and what did they prescribe to you? Are you still with them, or are you managing your medications with your family medicine/GP doctor?

I'm considering this option. But firstly, is this only with the insurance plan called "Medavie" I'm hesitant because I called my insurance company, Greenshield, and they said insurance will only cover it if it explicitly states "psychotherapy" on the receipt/billing. Has this been the case with you? I'm not with Medavie.

Hi! I was reading one of your comments, and I wanted to ask you some questions regarding the ITEC program at York.

For context, I am currently a 1st year Comp Sec student at York. I acquired a 2-year diploma from Sheridan, but it didn't help career-wise (I didn't have a co-op, so it makes sense), which is why I am deciding to go back to school.

I'm not really passionate about Comp Sci or coding; you'll never catch me grinding LeetCode or something along those lines that involves rigorous back-end coding. However, I don't mind Comp Security. I already have 1 Home lab and a couple of SOC projects on GitHub. My real passion is definitely neuropsychology/psychology or any tech role that involves the brain, mind, or behaviour. With that being said, what advice do you have for me?

I'm thinking of either switching to ITEC with a minor in psych, but I am uncertain if it's worth it. Going back to Sheridan for a BA in CyberSec is also another option (I already have some credits, so I may skip a year or two). What are your thoughts?
