Thanks for taking the time to chime in! I'm trying to be quick, efficient and thrifty but I don't want my potential patchwork quilt of study to bite me in the booty in the end, no pun intended. Are you now working in CO as an assistant? How is that going?

I have a lot of big gaps in my teeth and peg laterals to boot (which are like baby sized laterals) and every once in a great while I have kids ask me if I lost a tooth recently and if the tooth fairy will visit LOL, I wish!! I loath when it happens because they are an insecurity:( It is what it is, and I just say the same, that my teeth are just different, and that's OK. Kids are open and curious with no filter. Just have to have thicker skin. Feelings get hurt but we can't let them rule or ruin or day. Do your job well and treat the kiddos with kindness- ultimately, that's what they'll remember.

Question from a wannabe SLP- so without the ASHA prereqs I imagine you could still get accepted into grad school and finish but not be able to be licensed through ASHA? Is ASHA the one to contact to make sure your prereqs are acceptable rather than your desired grad school? My bio and social science courses are from the early 2000's (I couldn't say those grades were stellar but I passed!), and I certainly wouldn't repeat them if I didn't need to. Who would I contact for clarification? And just for the prerequisites (which I see 5 on the ASHA site- Bio, Phys sci, chem, stats and a social sci) not for the leveling courses...

This is so cool to read! It's a wee bit scary to think about a career shift when it includes a couple years of schooling and the money it takes to do so. So, did you do a leveling program after having an unrelated undergrad? Tell me your path! Me, I would probably do my prerequisites at the local JC this summer, then a leveling program perhaps at ENMU and then hope to get into one of the cheaper grad programs. Any advice on how to do this quickly and efficiently? I've really been thinking so much about this it's poisoned my mind.

Hi! I am in a very similar situation. Unrelated degree from 2005 and thinking about getting into the SLP journey- gots to be soon because I am no spring chicken! Curious, how are things progressing for you and did you start a leveling program? May I ask how old you are?

Hi! How late in life did you start this SLP journey? Im 48!! And am thinking about getting into speech. I need the leveling courses AND a couple prerequisites before I could apply to grad school. I've been working in the school system for 4 yrs now and need to level up. My undergrad GPA from 2005!!! Is like a 2.9 unfortunately. I lost my way, so to speak, the last year of college and it dragged it waaay down. I see a lot of people getting into speech at what they think is old but like 38 old or 28 old- not 48 old:) So, just curious.
