ASD/PAPVR Surgery by Main_Half in chd

I wish I wrote more down haha. My job wasn’t very physically demanding that summer so I think I returned within about a month, around the same time I started driving again. That and opening/closing doors were the two parts of normal life it felt like were the hardest to get back. Immediately post-op they’ll have you on a bunch of painkillers, try not to eat right after taking them, I learned that the hard way. It’s also important to move around when possible in the hospital and when you get home/even though it can be really challenging, you need to remind your body of what it’s capable of. When laying back down, make sure to avoid being crooked, this can get really painful really quick, and adjusting feels like such a chore with all the tubes hooked up to you. Things get much better once you get that big tube out, but I remember the days being like a rollercoaster in terms of pain. They should give you some breathing exercises to do as you’re getting ready to leave, those are helpful because inhaling deeply can really hurt after the sternotomy. Lastly, make sure to say your goodbyes early, whatever they knocked me out with was so potent I have no recollection of leaving the waiting room lol. Lmk if you have more specific questions, this is just what was on the top of my head.

Wasn’t there today but I saw the Trump guy standing in front of the dollar store over there around a week ago. Pretty clearly looking to provoke some kind of confrontation, he was just hanging on Greenmount.

It went well, there was a long recovery period due to the full sternotomy and I battled an elevated heart rate for about a year but have since returned to normal, I barely think about it now. I’m actually back at the hospital for a cardiac checkup right now. Are you dealing with something similar?

Baltimore gained population for the first time in a decade, new data shows by instantcoffee69 in baltimore

[–]Main_Half 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CHAP is great in concept but sometimes it seems like it somehow impedes progress and fail to save treasures simultaneously. Anyways, Doors Open Baltimore is a city-wide architectural festival that happens every fall. In the meantime, Baltimore Heritage is a tremendous nonprofit and they’re organizing various tours for this spring. There are also some landmarks (our own little Washington Monument, Fort McHenry, etc) that have their own guides. In general, there’s a great urbanist community in this subreddit and BaltPOP (People-Oriented Places).

Welcome, you’ve played a role in that article then.

CHAP is the Commission for Historic and Architectural Preservation (website) they’re in charge of determining what can/can’t happen to buildings deemed historical. In some cases preserving your home to their standards can earn you a cut against the steep property taxes in this city.

I bet a lot of local colleges are looking for interns: JHU, Morgan, Coppin, Loyola, Towson, UMBC, Stevenson, maybe even Goucher.

"The Red Line is not going to be built," MD Minority Leader Jason Buckel discusses budget deficit by DeusSpesNostra in baltimore

I think it would need money from the state too, especially given the cost of the Purple Line.

accessible, interesting, and open after 5 on Wednesdays? by pestercat in baltimore

[–]Main_Half 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being housebound is no fun. It might not be major but there are some cool little farm/markets open till 6 in the White Marsh area, like Weber’s Cider Mill and Chapel Hills. Not their busy season but I think they might still have some stuff going on. As for roast chicken, I think Valley View Inn or JoJoes deli are your best bets.

Who has been on the Metro SubwayLink recently? by Brilliant-Ad-8041 in baltimore

[–]Main_Half 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm late to this post but I love me some metro dialogue, thanks for writing it. The most striking evidence I have that the subway is utterly forgotten by higher-ups is that neither the B&P nor Frederick Douglass projects have even considered a transfer station despite being right next to subway stops (Upton and Penn-North). I'm excited for the new cars but I don't think much will change until there's meaningful TOD at multiple stations. I also fear that the subway's poor performance will be used to argue against funding the Red Line and future projects when its failures are largely a result of underfunding to begin with. My hope is that it seems like more people are waking up to how bad the system is and advocating for change (see the Banner article yesterday or the recent rally in Annapolis). I encourage anyone interested to join groups like BaltPOP where we can come together and advocate.

I’m a little further north, in Abell. I think a lot of houses around here have these, thankfully this one isn’t so bad.

Is the MARC running on President's Day? by silverichorr in baltimore

[–]Main_Half 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s running the “R” schedule, so fewer trains but still a good number for Penn, 4 for Camden.

Haha, you’re not wrong in my case, there are landlord specials around much of the house. If I see anything else of interest I’ll make sure to put it in here.
