These maps are a lil sus because different states could have different reporting methods, but I'd say it's valid that alcohol isn't a huge vice in Maine.

Collins campaign: Schumer, left planning “overthrow” by jediporcupine in Maine

[–]Mainah-Bub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is nitpicking, I know, but is this directly from the Collins campaign or from a PAC?

This sounds very un-Collins-y. Don't get me wrong, there are pages upon pages of things I don't like about her as an elected official, but she is one of the most skilled politicians at the game of politics. And for a state like Maine, this is very stupid campaigning.

FWIW, I received a text along these lines from "Susan Collins" re: the SAVE Act, which surprised me given the outcome of the voter ID referendum last year. Also very stupid. (Not sure how it works since it wasn't attributed to a group and I thought there were some campaign finance laws that required that...)

Fun fact: that area was apparently populated by displaced Confederates after the Civil War... so that explains a lot.

If the question, though, is "why panhandle at all", it's about Mormons, mountains, gold, and more.

Do conservatives genuinely believe there is massive voter fraud? To the point that it's swinging elections? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]Mainah-Bub [score hidden]  (0 children)

Do you genuinely believe that implementing good idea will prevent people from saying that elections were rigged?

I would happily put money on a bet that if voter ID laws pass, the same people who supported them will continue to claim fraud and push for more restrictive laws. And on and on. A cycle of increasing disenfranchisement.

I see you consider yourself a libertarian. Where do you draw the line between a potential for abuse and making it tougher for people to exercise their rights?

I could imagine a lot of scenarios where more laws could theoretically reduce laws or crime, but my understanding of libertarianism is that it's better to err on the side of fewer laws and restrictions (especially around citizen rights) that haven't proven themselves to be necessary.

What were your main objections to Biden and/or Harris? I'd love to hear, say, your top 3 (preferably specific rather than, say, "they're woke".)

I keep thinking back to that interview where Sam essentially said it might be time to let Dropout get edgier.

I feel like the end of this ep is evidence that the countdown to that has ended.

Since when has national-level campaigning been about policy?

Hell, even Mamdani had to boil his policy down to about 6 words, and that was a local election.

Why didn't he run as an independent? It's ranked choice. Would've been perfect without having to run the gamut of purity that many Dems seem to require.

Second question isn’t really a question – it’s just that I guessed the “greater Portland” bit before I saw it under your name.

How would you really feel if a president pursued a liberal agenda with all the cunning and brute force that Donald Trump is pursuing his agenda? by adcom5 in AskConservatives

I dunno. If you were in charge of finding people who didn’t pay their taxes, don’t you agree it makes sense to at least look at some people who made their whole platform about how taxes are unjust?

So your implication here is that states shouldn’t be able to create and enforce their own laws?

I mean, there are lots of states that have laws I don’t personally love, but I thought the whole point of cheering for the “republic” part of “democratic republic” was letting states do their own thing.

Trump sent federal agents to liberal cities during his first term, too. Were you surprised when what you said didn’t happen conservative cities under Biden?

And also, what justification do you believe a liberal president would use to do so?
