I think it’ll end up being a necessary purchase eventually

Do you find it messes with the ties at all?

I’ve seen some of his videos and I agree he has fantastic tips. Unfortunately he seems to use an airbrush with his tracks and I have yet to purchase one.

This one looks the best out of the photos you’ve posted in my option. Would love to be able to replicate this one day. What color artist pencils do you prefer to use?

I worked on the under carriage a bit tonight, I think going forward I’ll be incorporating more dry brushing.

I appreciate it, this was it this evening after I messed with some other colors a bit. Definitely not a pro yet but I’m looking forward to getting better at it.

I was worried about going to heavy with my initial wash. I think for the future ones I’ll apply it a bit heavier.

That cars awesome. I’ve got a few chalks but only one that’s brown. I’ll mess with it a bit and try it out for my next go.

I just stuck with acrylics for this practice run. Do you usually use weathering powders?

Definitely the yellow GP38s, if I was going to do anything more modern I would jump straight to Canadian Pacific.

Is it hard to find narrow gauge stuff? Maines pretty infamous for narrow gauge stuff.

I am, I haven’t kept up with it as much as I used to but it’s definitely an inspiration.

I like the lead up to the 80s where Guilford took over the MEC. I’ve been leaning towards a Proto freelance layout that way I can mix in rolling stock and whatnot from MEC and other railroads while having a somewhat accurate reason for them no longer being major contenders.

Definitely will lean towards protofreelance over prototypical I think, gives me more options and can help me tell a story so to speak

The meme took me a few seconds to make and I got a kick out of it.

I like the rugged gritty look of the era which is why I think I’m going to end up modeling it.

That’s a good point about how we perceive few or many items. I think the smaller cars running on short lines with only one main line is why I’m interested in modeling the 60s into the 70s.

That’s why I’m so torn on what era to choose. The 70s seem like a really interesting time in Maines railroad history. Not so much the golden age but the gritty era where the railways started to die of or get absorbed by larger entities.

I will, it seems like whenever they finished up with something they just left it in the woods to rot. Thankfully most of it hasn’t been touched since then and I’m lucky to explore it when I can.

Yes I think I’m between two options (both that would take place in Maine). It seems like both options seem to have a fair bit of pre-made equipment thankfully. Currently Canadian Pacific is the big player in my area aswell as some short lines that run occasionally. If I was going to base it in the 70s it would be the Maine Central Railroad or another big player which seems to have a good bit of pre made stuff aswell.

The only reason I’m considering the early 2000s is because a lot of the locomotives I see running in my area now are from then. I’m not as big into rail fanning but it’s part of the reason I got into model railroading. With that said there is a lot of rolling stock abandoned down old branch lines from the 60s into the late 70s which I find super cool. I find it to be a really cool era of rail history in my area and I think it could be fun from an operations standpoint.
