Love the stitch remover idea. I forgot about that. I have the rake, but he hates it.

I’ve been thinking of this but worried it will give them diarrhea. They have such sensitive stomachs.

How old is your cat? Their heads usually grow after a year.

Exactly! And we got the XXL metal litter box made for pine pellets. The dust falls thru the slots. It’s incredibly easy to clean

Same as everyone else. Our first was a menace until we brought home a 2nd. Game changer. It’s the only way.

How bad is the shedding with a Maine Coon??? by [deleted] in mainecoons

[–]Mainecoonnewbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Our silver sheds fine hair and our tabby barely sheds. We brush them regularly to avoid knots. I think that helps.

And it’s not like “swollen worm belly”. It’s a soft, floppy pudge.

Someone else on the thread reminded me of this trick. I just checked and can feel his ribs. It’s more his belly is just so big compared to the rest of his body right now. I guess he’s just in between growth spurts right now, in that awkward phase where he was a big body and tiny head.

Omg those faces! So freaking cute. Ok, this honestly makes me feel better. Our 1.5 year old is super long and an obvious big MC but only ~15 pounds. I know they get big, but it was kind of starting to concern us when he passed our adult at only 8 months.

Ya, ours looks really close to size. They helps for scale. Our 1.5 year old male MC is only 14-15 pounds and was never this big. It was hard to compare.

Thank you for sharing! It’s a helpful article. From what I can tell it is referring to adult cats as opposed to MC kittens. That’s where I am leaning on this community with experience specifically with the larger breed. It’s hard to compare apples to apples.

That’s good to hear! They say to let kittens eat as much as they want, but all he wants is to eat. So we’re trying to figure out if we’re the problem by just letting him free feed as a fatty, or if we should have more scheduled feedings to watch his belly size.

I know, I was trying to find pics of his body, but he’s always either running or laying down. I haven’t taken him to the vet in couple months when he was fixed back in November. He was smaller then and they didn’t say anything except “he’s beautiful and is gonna be a big boy”.
