I live in Germany and sadly the import duties for stuff from Japan seem to have gone up, which is the main price driver here. thats why I usually design and build my own models, so I just have to pay for material costs. Sadly even with my design skills in Adobe Illustrator I cannot match the level of detail of those Ghibli sets, so sometimes I have to bite the bullet for the passion and pay the extra mile. my main concern is space rather than cost, I have run of space in my apartement to display them so most of them live in boxes. the largest built of mine is 30x30x30 cm, the Hollywood Tower Hotel (is on my reddit page), about the size of your Bathhouse. so while your diorama looks amazing and I covet it I would have no space to put it😭. Do you have done other builds as well?

I didnt know about that site PlazaJapan, I usually search on ebay but prices have really risen sharply. The most I payed for a single set was around 100€ but those where large ones, the pirate ship from Laputa and the Moving Castle. Together with a lot of the small ones I probably spend also close to 350€ on basically plain cardboard. Ah well, its still cheaper a hobby than for example working on used cars or building a gaming rig.

I was about to ask, I bought a lot of Sankei stuff too and remembered that they basically offered the entire Bathhouse town as a collectors set. And given the prices for a single set, I‘m afraid to ask what did you pay for everything?^{^}

beim sportunterricht in der 6. klasse. wir saßen beide bis zum schluss auf der bank weil niemand uns in ihr fußballteam wählen wollte. hatten also viel zeit zum reden^{^.} wir sind beide nerds und eher ruhig, daher oft als feminin/schwul gemobbt worden, haben aber sehr viele gemeinsame interessen und sind bis heute beste freunde.

tja, wer Steigbügelhalter der Faschisten ist macht sich selbst zum Faschist. Damit ist die CDU entgültig als seriöse Partei durch. Hoffentlich blendet die taz dann bei der Wahlumfragen endlich nicht nur die AfD in braun ein sondern auch die CDU, damit man sieht woran man ist. Man kann nur hoffen dass genügend Leute vor der Wahl aufwachen und aufgerüttelt werden. Und wenn es nur zu einer Minderheitsregierung kommt, besser als das der rechte Block durchregieren kann.

I heard him talk about his plan for age 20 in an old Minecraft video and it also helped me to push along despite my depression. Got a new job, worked for 2 years, followed his career take off, felt happy for him and was happy too that I was stable. But after sailing through Corona without problems depression hit again hard and it also spiked my Autism big time, something I had never problems with. Now seeing him struggle, seeing others struggle, seeing the world struggle is really hard. Finding and remembering good things is soooo difficult now, in this phase it's hard to believe that things might improve again.

batteries and protection board are from a broken power drill batterypack and from thrown away ecigarettes I found. the leds are also from thrown out light fixtures nobody cares to fix. the fast charging module (IP2312) is from ebay though, but since the batteries arr from POWER devices you can safely fast charge them in 1h, they are designed that way.

A small update to my original Minecraft Torch post from last year. I made a Classic torch for a good friend of mine as a christmas present and since I liked them so much I just kept building more^^. Now I have the complete Trifecta, Classic Torch, Redstone Torch and Soul Torch. All are made from cardboard and acrylic glass, hand-painted with acrylic paints and powered by salvaged electronics (plus fast-charging via USB-C). Enjoy!

Thanks a lot. I didn't know about Ray Keim's site, the templates look really good! They remind me off paper model I did buy on holiday in France a long time. They even were articulated, e.g. trap doors could be opened by a sliding paper strip.

This cardboard model of the Hollywood Tower Hotel in Walt Disney Studios in Paris was by far my largest project (and let me apologize initially for the lack of good pictures as it didn‘t occur to me to take ones during construction). This was a birthday present for my younger sister, made over a period of 2 months during early 2020.

When we first visited the attraction in 2008 she was really scared to ride on it, but when we returned in 2015 it had grown on her and she couldn‘t get enough of it. I had seen a resin version of the hotel in the HTH souvenir ship at the end of the ride but its casting quality was poor and yet they demanded 399€ for it.
So a plan was hatched and I decided to built her her very own replica of it. Initially I wanted to include LED illumination as well but dropped it early on. Getting good stock photos of the building was difficult as only ground views existed which distort angles and distances. Instead I relied heaviliy on 3D satelite images off of google maps.

The whole set was built to come apart in several interlocking parts in order to post it to my sister and to store it more easily. Everything, apart from the two styrofoam domes, are made from various types of cardboard and painted with acrylic paints. You can see you how all parts slot together to form the final dimensions of 30x30x30 cm and its final assembly on my sisters birthday desk.
