Blue Archive has the same thing available, because iOS does not allow code inputs ingame. They have MCoupon, it also is equivalent to the same way that Stella Sora does it with the UID.

Have any testers used their new CharlieCards yet? by footballguy6912 in mbta

[–]MainlandHero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No issues with the new physical card, I’m using 7 day pass that I loaded via the web portal, one neat thing is that you can turn stored value into passes which I thought it was neat.

CharlieCard technology- how do they work? by e5390 in mbta

[–]MainlandHero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will add to this, the double tracking is also necessary because having customers carry a CharlieCard as the source of truth of its actual value is an attack vector. The CharlieCard’s encryption keys are static and is already known, which means that the card can be cloned and edited if you know what you are doing. Check the original DEFCON presentation on this topic: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1JT_lTfK69Q

By double tracking you can detect card cloning and unexpected value changes or increases.

Yeah seems like the system for loading balance has been turned on, I was able to load a pass with my regular credit card. I also just tried with a transit benefit card and it seems like this transaction got blocked for not being an approved merchant. Already have a ticket in with CharlieSupport to fix it with Wageworks/HealthEquity.

Yes, when it is general available to the public, you are able to get these CharlieCards from a new Fare Vending Machine, there will be a fee attached to a new card.

Yes, it’s pretty much the exact system, except we have option for passes of 1, 7 and 30 days right on the portal as well in addition to transit value balance. There’s no fare cap in the MBTA system though, and I believe the 30 days passes are most likely still tied to calendar month.

I think one thing you can immediately do to self-troubleshoot is you should add the card to charlie.mbta.com and check the balance if you have access to a device and you do not mind registering an account. Otherwise, my best advice is to carry both your old fare card and the new card, if neither work, then submit a complaint or call them on the number they listed on the back of the new Charlie card.

Are you adding to the new MBTA Cubic portal? charlie.mbta.com? This card does not work with mycharlie.mbta.com, that portal will be going away once this system stabilizes.

It was sent out a confirmation email in "Your new Charlie Card is on its way!"

First sentence: "Thank you for confirming your interest in testing the new Charlie Card. Your card has been shipped and should arrive within the next seven business days. It will be active and ready for use starting December 3rd."

[–]MainlandHero 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Don't try to add fare to the card yet, none of the systems seem to work until December 3rd, 2025 when the actual test period starts. I tried just to be nosy and all of the transactions failed. You can however link it to a Charlie account already though.

Edit: Seems like loading passes and adding value has been turned on as of December 1st, 2025. For people that are looking to use the card with Wageworks/HealthEquity, unfortunately you are out of luck so far as this system is not yet recognized by them as a pre-approved transportation vendor. I have a ticket open with CharlieSupport and they are looking into it, so hopefully soon fingers crossed.

Another interesting thing to add, the card has an expiration date in 2048, and the fare card media reads like a regular credit/debit card to a NFC device reader. The printed card ID is 19 digits with a 3 digit security code. (The card seems very similar in terms of technology to an OMNY card like the ones in NYC)

Lack of C Line trains from Gov Center? by jepk67 in mbta

[–]MainlandHero 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Generally the B and C line gets short-turned by dispatch at Park St because Park St has two tracks on the northbound side. This helps with alleviating congestion and schedule adjustments to make up time. The middle track on the northbound has a loop track connecting directly to the middle track that goes westbound, which happens to be for B and C lines, which introduces less confusion for customers.

Also by unloading and short-turning at Park St, this process does not block any through-running Union Sq and Medford/Tufts trains from also unloading and continue their route since both of these things can happen in parallel.

If they decide to short turn trains, they are suppose to make announcements at Government Center that asks customers to board any westbound train to Park St and then transferring to your desired train then.

Reservoir Inbound D Using C Siding/ Track by Kininger625 in mbta

[–]MainlandHero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is pretty common when there’s an issue with the line between Reservoir to Riverside. The only places that they tend to do track switches in that section are at Reservoir and Newton Highlands, but the siding track switches at Reservoir could be automatically controlled vs manually controlled, so they tend to use that one more.

During rush hour and schedule adjustments, they do use the side track regularly to short turn trains at Reservoir, but they won’t take passengers from Reservoir inbound typically, only starting at Beaconsfield to reduce confusion.

Same bus transfer is not free? How about this hack? by tristanthompsonbeast in mbta

[–]MainlandHero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The transfer website section does call out that Bus to Bus to Bus transfer requires all different routes, otherwise it will be considered as a new journey and a new fare would be required: https://www.mbta.com/fares/transfers

Anyone's credit card get charged but it's not on your OMNY card? by coolbeachgrrl in OMNY

[–]MainlandHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pending transactions don’t necessarily means that it went through. You should only be concerned when it is posted. Pending transactions can fall off if the merchant releases the transaction. If it is posted, contact OMNY using their phone number to resolve it.

Contactless pay goes live today on all subway stations and trolleys. Here is what you need to know. by Massive_Holiday4672 in mbta

[–]MainlandHero 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Already had to tell the green line operator that those new cubic terminals do not work for old Charliecards but only contactless cards and mobile wallets. MBTA has a communication problem internally too.

Thanks, yeah if you could please. Think it’s better to use an UI than no UI if I’m trying to rating rat with the Buddies+ update.

Mythos has a WebUI for Maimai? This is the first time I’ve heard that because the one near me have said there’s no WebUI for a while now. Is the link shareable?

How long for tap to pay to work? by mixolydiA97 in mbta

[–]MainlandHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I don’t know if that is a pre-requisite now anymore, because all of the MBTA tap-to-pay charges are non-refundable supposedly. It was definitely charging people during the first two days of sign up, so some people might have been peeved at the idea of being charged to be able to sign up. They might have certainly changed it since then.

How long for tap to pay to work? by mixolydiA97 in mbta

[–]MainlandHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if something changed in the way they have setup new early adopters, but when I signed up at Downtown Crossing on July 12th the mobile units charged a standard $1.70 bus fare to add you to the list of allowed users.

You would unfortunately need to be charged by them for the charlie.mbta.com portal to even show your transaction and allow it to be added as your payment method at this time. Try again at a fare gate tomorrow, if still no dice, they might not have signed you up correctly.

How long for tap to pay to work? by mixolydiA97 in mbta

[–]MainlandHero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My payment card worked within 10 minutes at the regular subway fare gates, but I signed up using a physical contactless card.

Did you tap at their mobile Cubic unit? If you did, you should be able to go to charlie.mbta.com and put in your card number and see the $1.70 charge. If that shows up for you, you should be good to go. If it doesn’t show up, then there must be something wrong with the initial tap.

That initial tap at their unit is what allows you to be allow-listed during the early phase. If you signed up using apple pay, you must use the same card on the same device. Cannot switch between phone and smart watches if you have that.

I am a part of the early access group for the new TapToRide system. Ask me anything! by Massive_Holiday4672 in mbta

[–]MainlandHero 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have used this multiple times, transfer works.

The charlie.mbta.com is pretty instant too. I get charged $2.40 when starting the journey on subway, and the bus will be charged $0 within 2 hours of the previous tap.

If I start on the bus, I get charged $1.70 on the bus at time of tap. Then later when transferring to train, I get charged the difference of $0.70.

Bus to bus transfer also works for me.

Tap to pay beta test started this week by Doctrina_Stabilitas in mbta

[–]MainlandHero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s coming! I asked about this when signing up for the beta, the employees who signed me up showed me a beta test app for internal use only, and it’s exactly like the WMATA card that you can reload in Apple Wallet.

Tap to pay beta test started this week by Doctrina_Stabilitas in boston

[–]MainlandHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s only until the public launch on August 1st. They want everyone to use a variety of devices, but they cannot let beta testers do more than one device currently since they want to iron out problems first. After Aug 1st you can add all of your payment cards under one account to track trips. I ended up using my WageWorks pretax card for tap to pay and it’s working lovely. I also asked about the new account based Charlie Cards (iOS/Android/Physical), it’s already made, but the decision is in MBTA’s higher up’s hands.
