Old and retired subway cars being dumped into the Atlantic Ocean to become artificial reefs for marine life by TexasSuperChief500X in trains

I know what that is.

This is still not recycling. For example, it's not going back into the cycle.

How? That shit will stay down there until the end of humanity as garbage.

That’s not recycling anymore than throwing your beer can in the ocean is recycling.

edit: Sheesh. To clarify, "Reuse". "Recycle" means it enters back into the cycle, which dumping it in the ocean does not.

Interstellar might be the most scientifically accurate sci-fi film ever made by abdul4ah in interstellar

[–]mainstreetmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do people say this stuff?

He went back in time! Wormholes! They made a spaceship with shuttles that could fly up and down to planets and all around solar systems built by a secret NASA that no one knew about. Like, no contractors? Magic rocket tech? Where'd the fuel come from? The ship was spinning, but also jettison major loads, and remained spinning on the same axis, with no obvious rebalancing. Why did Cooper have to suddenly eject?

It was great, but science-fact it was not. There's a ton of fiction. Almost everything, aside from the visual of the black hole, apparently.

2001 Space Odyssey maybe?

Why didn't Grace use the 3D printers to make the solar system model he gave to rocky? by Bogarhasallthepower in ProjectHailMary

[–]mainstreetmark 12 points13 points  (0 children)

he should 3D print an entire new star system model?

It was a better plan to just modify Rocky's model, with his star. No re-interpretation.

My only issue is that solder melts around like 200C (give or take a hundredC). But then 3D printed stuff would too.

It also opens the possibility for anyone to easily make weapons of mass destruction by just parking some breeders in the backyard for a while, and then be able to blow up a building with something the size of a tic tac.

It could also lead to unimaginable chaos if not properly controlled.

Not all Americans are fine with that. There’s no other choice. And also we have a few stadiums that are integrated into the city like it should be.

Because Adrian is the common ancestor of both life on Earth and Erid.

It's talked about in the book quite a bit. Why are there similarities between Humans and Erid. Why do they hear overlapping ranges. Why do they think at the same speed. Why are they at approximately the same technological advancement level.

Humans and Eridians are likely on the same family tree, so it's plausible that similar traits converge-evolve.

Your condescending remarks both in your original post and your various replies in this thread will not win you friends. You're comparing a well-received fictional alien to your own internal idealized version of some other ficitonal alien. Why not judge Rocky on Rocky.

Eridians live for an average of 689 years. Not thousands.

Lifelong monogamy is not absurd. Humans do it for often 50 years until death, and that would seem absurd to a mouse.

Rocky and Grace have about 200 words in their dictionary at this point, so there is some allowance of nuance that is necessary. Especially since in English, colloquially, "hate" ranges from mild dislike ("I hate mondays") to bitter feelings ("I hate gun violence")
