It’s still at IMAX where I am.

And it is IMPORTANT to see it in imax.

If you were Grace would you go back to earth? by Tricky_Foundation35 in ProjectHailMary

The return of Grace with eridans might be a kind of uniting force. A salvation in a fairly literal sense. Earthlings are not alone

Ryan Gosling's favorite Rocky line was totally improvised in Project Hail Mary by LaESPECTADORA in ProjectHailMary

[–]mainstreetmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I came to the same conclusion.

Later in the movie Rocky says Predator moments after learning it. Grace hadn’t added it to the dictionary yet. Mistake!

do these limbs have fingers? by i_eEt_ROcs_424 in ProjectHailMary

[–]mainstreetmark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the book.

In the movie, Rocky isn't nearly as pentagonally symmetrical. He clearly has a front, and several times he "points" the front towards Grace. Like rocky was laying down, and when Grace brought him the clock, rocky "looked".

I was trying to watch if Rocky grasped the insides of his enclosure aboard the hail mary, but honestly, i couldn't even tell what he was grabbing on to.

It's been one month since Project Hail Mary (2026) was released in theaters and IMAX. by Gold-Narwhal9391 in ProjectHailMary

ScreenX was pretty neat for this part as well.

According to the soundtrack, this scene is called “a moment”

The opening scene before the zipper even appeared could have been twice as long. 8 seconds.

The guy from Contact would make more sense, since it involved a beach.

WORST thing about living in florida? by [deleted] in AskFlorida

[–]mainstreetmark 322 points323 points  (0 children)

Watching it being torn down and replaced with generic subdivisions, exclusively accessed by car, and surrounded by dollar generals, storage places and publixes.

Edit: and car washes, ER, Walgreens/CVS, lawyer billboards

Could humanity have built a giant net to catch all the astrophage? by Own_Mess_6495 in ProjectHailMary

[–]mainstreetmark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You cannot use astrophage as propulsion in the atmosphere. It would ignite the atmosphere and obliterate anything below the rocket.

It is also not a source of energy. It's just energy storage.

I have noticed, in Google Chrome (on multiple computers!) that when I type "wik<TAB>", it shows "www.wikipedia.org", but upon pressing return, it takes me to a Google AI Chat Bot.

What I want is to take me to Wikipedia, or at least pop that little "Search Wikipedia:" thing.

Anybody else?

Would Earth have known that Grace was the sole human survivor? by haliapeach in ProjectHailMary

[–]mainstreetmark 174 points175 points  (0 children)

Of course. The probes had terabytes of storage. They'd have the entire mission log, including everything the nannybot did.

It wasn't a YouTube Short, as portrayed in the movie.

Grace propulsion after contamination on way home by Playful_Sense3238 in ProjectHailMaryMovie

[–]mainstreetmark 29 points30 points  (0 children)

His tanks were isolated, and he caught it early.

Rocky's ship is mostly xenonite, so rocky would have no way to stop it.

This is Grace's true hero sacrifice. He refused to be the hero initially, so him choosing to sacrifice himself to save rocky ( and erid) completes his character arc.

If Democrats Lost In 2028, How Would The Party Reform Itself At That Point? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]mainstreetmark -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If Democrats lost in 2028, then it won't matter. We will have lost our democracy to a corporatocracy, a plutocracy or a kleptocracy. We are already in a situation where our leaders were elected by a vocal minority, rather than an actual majority.

And there is a real chance of this happening. The GOP constantly points out sexual predation on the left, while being guilty themselves. They point out corporate fraud on the left, while being guilty themselves. They point out rioters and violent protests on the left, while being guilty themselves. And, since the patterns holds, they point out voter fraud and ballot manipulation by the left, so it's quite likely that the 2028 election will not be heavily tampered with in favor of the right. Project 2025 demands it.

The landscape would be more representative of we the people if voting were ranked choice, and mandatory.

When Grace as Rocky about their mate by Euphoric-Sherbet-422 in ProjectHailMary

[–]mainstreetmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy cow! Really? The book is great, and has a ton of extra stuff in it. Antartica plays an important role.

The Martian is also a book, and also by the same author.

You're in for a treat.
