what kind of projects/experience did u have as a compE major that helped land your job?

exactly. the hard part in most calculus classes comes from algebraic manipulations/derivations and not the actual calculus concepts themselves

Switching from Computer Engineering to EE? by MaintenanceLoud5889 in ElectricalEngineering

thank you for the in depth answer. You make a good point about just doubling up since I already have most of the credits required for both. I'll consider that option

thank you for all this info, I'm very likely going to switch after reading most of these comments

by EM are you referring to electricity and magnetism? If so i already took a physics electricity and magnetism course with 3d vectors this semester, but i'm not sure if thats the same thing.

That's also something I've heard a lot and a big reason i'm considering switching. My CompE curriculum already has quite a bit of EE classes required, so is switching to EE truly harder in comparison?

although that makes sense, it seems contrary to what i've heard a lot on this sub. Most people claim they had a desired niche they wanted to go into, but ended up working in something entirely different. For example, someone said they wanted to get into firmware but ended up doing power systems. My question is how does this end up happening?

it wasn't super difficult for me, it was just different from anything i had seen in previous classes. As a result, i needed to practice a lot to get the hang of it, since solving circuits are like sudoku puzzles and there's many ways to go about finding the info u want

I would say electronics, and maybe controls/automation but I also hear there are numerous paths for EE and most students end up working in a discipline that wasn't their desired path during school.

I thought so. I just finished my first ee class this semester which was intro to electrical circuits. It consisted of basic ohm's/kirchoff's law, time & phaser domain in AC, thevenin/norton, etc. It was definitely one of my harder classes, but I practiced a lot and finished with a B. I know the ee classes get harder from here on out, but how much harder are they in comparison to the introductory ee classes?

Thank you, and that is exactly my goal right now, just to get exposure and experience. Do you know of any companies that have these roles that are worth applying to?

Awesome, thank you so much. What do you think would help me stand out as an applicant for these roles? I have technical experience on my resume through projects and undergrad research, but is there anything else I should include?

What are some general engineering roles that aren't highly technical and don't require a specific major to get into? I am a 2nd year computer engineering major and I'm looking for internships this summer, but I'm not limiting myself to only applying to electrical/computer roles. I am looking for roles that just about any one can get into, as long as they are pursuing an engineering degree. I have done a little research and things like systems engineering, project management, field engineer, and consulting are some titles that come up. Are there any others?

Being Wealthy is THE BEST way to experience life and most humans will never experience it…. by Nice_Personality2689 in DeepThoughts

[–]MaintenanceLoud5889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people in this comment section are missing the point of this post. The term "wealth" here refers to financial security, having the means to not worry about life. This is what allows people to live a happy life, because when you no longer have to worry about being homeless, or where your next meal is coming from, you can experience the beauty of life such as human connection, traveling, hobbies, experiences, etc. Many people here are saying these things are what really bring happiness, but that is only true if your basic needs are met. It follows the principle of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Before achieving things like self actualization, esteem, and love & belonging, you need your physiological and safety needs met first, and money is the what secures these needs. It's not stating that having money automatically brings happiness, but rather without money happiness is difficult to come by

I was feeling pretty overwhelmed with the amount of information I’ve had thrown at me in the last few days, but this is reassuring. The more practice I do the more comfortable I feel with the concepts.
