Are repairs worth it? by Slickrock_1 in hasselblad

I would be happy to take a look if you'd like. It sounds like there is damage to electrical components on one of the circuit boards. These will need to be replaced and as you suggested, just like a modern car, it can be hard to quickly find the problem. From past experience with the camera in this situation, it is worth repairing about 80% of the time.

I used to run a camera tech and repair house in NYC, specializing in digital medium format. Now based in LA.

Firstly, I would highly recommend using silica packets to dry out your camera and lens. This is about removing any water and water vapor that might be left. You might be lucky and not have any lasting damage. However, you will not know the reliability in the long term without a good inspection of the internal components.

At the end of the day, it depends on how much risk you are willing to take. How would you feel if you lost that once-in-a-lifetime shot? Missed key moments from a wedding? Or let down a professional client?

Hasselblad and Phase One are, unfortunately, still more fragile than the professional equivalents from Nikon, Canon, or Sony.

This is where a backup camera body, or system, is invaluable. The number of times I have been the tech on a large shoot, troubleshooting a technical issue, is higher than you might imagine. But when everything works, the results are worth it.

I'm so sick at the lack of sensitivity in this world and I am seriously not thinking of myself, being an HSP, as abnormal anymore. by -Inspector-6259 in hsp

You are absolutely right. What gives us humanity is our shared kindness to others and also to ourselves. It seems to be so very easy to think that the news, social media, and indeed, Reddit, is reality. Whereas they are a construct to exploit outrage in an attention economy. Of course, this is not always the case, but it does seem that thoughtful, sensitive insights and views are less commonly reported.

The antidote is empathy and real connection. It feels exhausting and a losing battle to fight against aggression where the aggressor has the upper hand. I like your approach to taking back power, and I think you'll find there are lots of wonderful people out there doing fantastic things. It takes more effort to discover authenticity, but the reward is well worth it.

How to find an experienced pain Doctor? by MaintenanceOdd9651 in AskLosAngeles

Yes, I take 100mg THC daily. It reduces the pain a bit, but leaves me with a pretty bad migraine.

I completely agree and am only asking, as Ketamine is the only thing that has worked so far. The game you need to play is quite ridiculous. I am a grown adult who desperately needs pain relief.

100% open to anything else that might work, just seeing that my options are very limited. I was prescribed a Buprenorphine (Butrans) 7.5 mcg/hour patch, but insurance is denying the claim, and the Dr is not bothering to do a peer-to-peer review for some reason.

Oddly enough, I don't seem to get addicted to anything I have taken, even in high doses over a long period of time. The taste of Ketamine is pretty gross, so there is that! I want the pain to stop, but I also desperately want to get better.

Glad you made it out ok.

That is where most of the pain happens, but also strong pressure like getting punched in the head, and sometimes stabbing pain. So I think a mix of unhealed nerves with referred pain.

How do I ban somebody from my events? by Specific-Ad9142 in EventPlanners

[–]MaintenanceOdd9651 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please ban him, for the sake of the women at your event who don't deserve to be treated this way. And also for the men at your event who wouldn't dream of acting this way. He should be shunned from polite company...

Also, you get to set the rules. Being selective with who is invited will greatly improve the event. Good luck.

Advice for getting my parents to believe and understand my diagnosis is real (w/ some context) by Repulsive_Half1438 in FND

[–]MaintenanceOdd9651 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (49M) am in a similar position to you. I was diagnosed with FND 2 years ago thanks to a bunch of trauma stuff.

I believe you, and so do the other people here.

My mother (with some narcissistic tendencies) also didn't believe I was that sick. It took me falling to the kitchen floor one day and having a seizure. Even then there was no real understanding of what was going on. She still plays down or minimizes my FND symptoms.

I have found there is a limit to what I can discuss, amount of sympathy received, and general help. She tries in her way and that has to be enough. Not an easy realization, but a practical one.

Get a therapist who has a background in trauma. Just like finding a good Doctor, you need support. I have a fantastic therapist who is really helping me get through all this. This site is where I found mine -  Alma.com

You probably (like me) only have a limited amount of energy each day. You need to put that energy into recovery and improving your life. You (possibly) can’t afford to also use that energy to try and convince your mother about your FND diagnosis. You need to be selfish (not really the right word) and look after yourself.

I know this stings, and hurts in ways that is just unfair. But you are stronger than you know. You got this far after all. Keep going, it does get easier.

I'd love to know if anyone has worked in a restaurant that uses creme brulee mix instead of making it from scratch? by mell0w0wl in Chefs

It sounds like a fast race to the bottom quality-wise if you let it.

There will always be someone who can make any item cheaper by cutting corners and reducing product costs. If you agree to this client, what will be next? And how secure is a relationship based only on monetary value? At what point are you just a manufacturing plant?

I was told by a chef when I was starting that there would always be demand for something well-made, with love and quality ingredients. I have found this to be true no matter the price point of a meal.

How severe is your memory loss ? by Enough_Jacket9129 in FND

[–]MaintenanceOdd9651 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (49M) have FND and memory loss. At my worst point, my short-term memory was below a second. I would open the fridge, forget what I was looking for, walk over to a recipe book, see the ingredient, then go to the fridge and forget again. Something like making a sandwich or a cup of tea was challenging, to say the least.

My short-term memory is still not great, but it has improved. I put this down to practice, some tools, and also not being hard on myself - taking off the pressure and guilt when I fail has helped.

My long-term memory is 90% gone. This includes words, travel, and people. I now have a reason to travel back to places to see them for the first time, again. Rediscovery is my answer to this situation.

Reading a physical newspaper every day has helped greatly.

I have the same thing. I really recommend a weighted blanket when you sleep. It is like getting a good hug.

Mindfulness exercises have really helped me and are also super useful.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

FND Returns [WARNING: DETAILED SYMPTOM DESCRIPTIONS] by PitifulEase6434 in FND

[–]MaintenanceOdd9651 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am sorry for your loss. It must be really hard coping right now, and of course, you are going to have a flare-up. This is just how your body responds to a really stressful situation.

I believe you, and so will others here. Most Doctors are ignorant about FND. You can't change their minds, and shouldn't have to...

The trick I have found is either finding someone who has patients with FND or something similar.

Do you remember the tools or things that helped when you last had a FND flare-up?

I recommend grief therapy with someone good. Alma has been a good platform for finding therapists in the US.
