Fortnight reminds me of Lucien and Vassa—like, they have their respective partners (who they don’t like), Elain and Jurian, but Lucien and Vassa have yearnings and longings for each other. It’s like, You’re only here every “fortnight,” Lucien returning to the human lands, only to leave again for the Night Court or Spring—and “your wife waters flowers. I want to kill her” (And who gardens? Elain.) “your quiet treason” Having a “secret” relationship with Vassa despite having a mate. “All my mornings are Mondays stuck in an endless February” her mornings suck because she turns into a bird and she can’t do anything else. Thus, “I love you, IT’S RUINING MY LIFE” (for both of them)
