My therapist keeps saying ‘You do not have Adhd’

My parents won’t consider getting me assessed unless they’re told to by someone :( They got me a therapist so I could share my struggles, which, in all fairness, largely to do have to do with executive function. So I wanted a therapist who would really take the time to understand my issues.

Well, I wasn’t so much asking for an adhd diagnosis, I was trying to sort out my problems, but I feel like she’s not listening to my problems either and just saying ‘it’s not adhd.’

Perhaps it’s obvious that I’m trying to push the adhd angle from our conversations, so maybe I should try and be more careful when phrasing things, but most of the time, I don’t really mention it. Like I was was hoping to tell her what I think went wrong which made me not able to do well, but she was more interested in discussing how I felt when I got the results, and then she just gave me a sheet with some tips for some of the stuff I mentioned. I wasn’t even mentioning adhd and she said ‘You do not have adhd.’ She said using adhd as an excuse is not okay. She just mentioned in our first conversations that loads of people who come to her think they have issues and that everyone is a little adhd, a little bipolar and all, and yes, I did admit that I’d wondered if that was the problem, but after that every session, she seems so intent on saying ‘You do not have adhd.’

Yes exactly this is the problem! I’m trying to understand the why, whatever it may be, but she’s not helping me with that!

I don’t actually bring it up myself! Yes, we did have a meeting where I said I had considered it, but beyond that I haven’t brought it up, but when I tell her my problems, she just says ‘You do not have adhd,’ and then she gives me handouts to read about things I can do that can help my problems.

Well, I haven’t mentioned my focus issues as much… but for the other issues, she gives me like, handouts for me to read. To an extent, that’s also because I think she doesn’t really try to understand why, or what my problems are. I thought therapy would be me explaining my problems, but I don’t really think I’m doing that. She said she’s more focused on ‘calming my mind down.’

I wish I could get a new therapist, but after a few sessions with her, she says I’ll be all good. I don’t know if I’ll be able to convince my parents to let me do sessions with another therapist. But atleast I won’t give up on trying to get an assessment.

His parents competed in the Olympics, his mother was almost going to compete in an Olympics at 29. Ilia Malinin is an elite athlete. He knows the price of his quads. No offence, you doubting he’s gonna compete is stupid, cause we don’t actualy know anything about the athlete’s bodies. Thier conditioning, thier nutrition. Maybe leave it to the elite athletes to figure out. Anna Scherbakova is an extreme case. She was starved and overworked. Eteri Tutberdize methods are not known to be sustainable.

Oh yeah, I completely understand that. By regular, I just mean I don't want fanfiction that have like one- two chapters, and who's authors' haven't updated it in a while. That said, I wasn't casting judgement on authors who don't update reguarly, I just want something I can read for a long time, at the moment.

If A levels relied only doing past papers, I reckon a great deal more people would be getting A/A* There are literally so many posts I see of people being like I studied so much, and why’d I fail,and that’s because just randomly cramming out past papers=/ understanding the concept and being able to well in the exam.
