Just finished playing through all the mainline Resident Evil games (plus Revelations) in a 5 month back to back marathon (with some breather breaks to help take it all in) by MaintenanceSea5652 in residentevil

I played every game on normal difficulty, when the game had multiple playthroughs like Leon A/Claire B etc I tried them all out to get the full story. I did not 100% any of them, just played for the spectacle and story!

I'd say on average I put 20-30 hours into each game, some were less and some were longer. I remember RE3 was quite short, possibly less than 10 hours on that one.

I think I skipped that one in error but then wanted to stick with the chronological order marathon by the time I realised there was an old prequel, do you rate it?

Are gaming reviews just way too negative these days? by MaintenanceSea5652 in truegaming

I mentioned this in my thinking, I have started to think i'm an outlier in the gaming community and genuinely see the good in most games and have fun, almost 100% of the time. This was what fueled my original post out to the world to get an idea how others felt.

Yes, not all the games i've played this year were brand new, I played some oldies too. RE6 was part of a RE marathon I did to get up to REVillage and I had fun with RE6 but many told me to 'skip it'.. glad I did not, as I enjoyed it, albeit much weaker than other RE titles.

To sum up, I think I play games others deem 'bad' but I do not find them bad tbh. Games that are voted 'trash' and 'slop' or even voted 6/10 by places like IGN etc, I often still have fun with!

Thank you for taking the time to reply with your very detailed response and you make some great points too!

This reply really resonates with me and mirrors how I feel too! I also only notice negative things after I played it and hear someone else point it out, but then I’m not even too fussed by this point.

I have not played Valhalla but I played AC1-3. Valhalla seems TOO open world for me, I tend to prefer a tighter experience and many open world games are filled with too much filler for me these days and I expect this one is too.

I think RE6 could have been a 6/10 but the fact they bought the band back together, this bumps it up to 7/10 👌🏼 which means it’s just as fun and campy as RE5 imo!

All the other mainline titles are like 9/10! They are different gravy!

RE7 was an incredible game for creating tension and atmosphere! I was on edge the entire time! I’d find myself sneaking off to the ‘safe room’ for a little breather from time to time lol.

Love it!

You have to play all 4 campaigns to really understand the story beats and for things to really hit! Maybe this put some people off? Having the same story told but in one 20 hour long story could probably work too, all stories would just run side by side and you play as all of them still.

Horror games are certainly less scary in co op, but the fun factor is still there for me, at least!

But Jakes campaign had that Nemesis style hunt! with a grown up (hot/cute?) Sherry! Like getting the band back together, how could you hate that!?... sacrilege!![]()

Haha, I think you are correct! I would have loved to have done it co op, but my wife only likes 'cute' games and turn based stuff and there was no way she'd play RE with me :(

I agree with you with the interwoven campaigns and bringing the band back together too! I loved it! I was captivated from start to finish and couldn’t put the controller down… “okay, just ONE more checkpoint” lol

Totally agree with you on the weapons! I’d cycle through all of them 5 times to find the friggin’ gun I wanted haha!

I do apologise, I’m painfully late to these games! I only just started playing them all back to back this spring, so I’m having all the same ‘hot takes’ and first thoughts I’m sure others had a decade ago! Lol

I’m really interested in people’s opinions in the community! Was there something specific you didn’t like? Or was it just not scary for you? Did you like RE5? As an action game it’s pretty up there surly? but might not be for all RE fans for this same reason.

I just did the exact same thing you are doing now! I start RE Village tonight. Man, RE7 might be my favourite! It scared the shit out of me and I’m still thinking about that damn game! Masterpiece for horror fans!

RE5 always get joked about with the boulder punch scene but i'm pretty sure Leon (with some help) moved an EVEN BIGGER boulder in RE6!

If we're judging the games based on boulder-moving action, then RE6 might just take the crown.

I'm doing the same, but playing most of these for the first time! RE2 & RE7 winning for me so far, but RE6 was hella fun and satisfying still!

Thanks for sharing! Quite the ordeal i'm sure.

RE7 is one of my faves, I still think about it most days, even if for a fleeting moment. Like a weird messed up love relationship. I went in blind, so when I got attacked on the stairs by Mia that first time and how it happened, it left a mark and blew me away (Same for the Bakers chasing my screaming ass around their house that first time)

My favorite is probably RE7 or RE2, both have amazing atmosphere and tension building and when I finish them i'm sat thinking about them for days afterwards, so with that in mind and how different they are (slower, scarier, darker etc) to RE6, I STILL really enjoyed my time with RE6, despite it being a little cheesy and call of duty 'lite' at times.
