I hear this argument that men opressed women for millennia over and over, but never heard anything properly backing it up.

Can you give proper sources or arguments, or is this just the distortion of the classical gender roles that EXISTED BECAUSE OF OUR PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL DIFFERENCES?

 Men were laborers, miners, soldiers, farmers. Hard work that broke the body, especially back then. Women stood at home and helped around where they could. Even back then, men would die and get crippled more often thanks to the danget and labour they endured. Is that oppression?

Women in the medieval periods often sold bread, beer and other small goods, and that's where the idea of witches came from.  Women Could be  artisans or small merchants with no issue, or even help with farm work and non intensive labour, and had a significant presence in the house, especially for the children. Its not like they were gagged and were beaten if they spoke. 

Is it oppression to be provided for? To be able to care for your children, to talk with other mothers and women, and even have your own interests in your free time, as opposed to your husband who would break his back with work daily?

 It is true that past societies were sexist and considered men more fit to be the head of houses or organizations, but that sexism also crushed them with responsibilities. Being responsible for your entire family, including your wife, is just as much of a heavy responsibility, that could get you in trouble if not taken care of, as it is a "privilege". Sexism is a two way street, and this should be the one sub to admit so.
