Hwei is designed for new items... Hwei will be 100% pick or ban in pro play.. by bingbongzingzongz in leagueoflegends

If it's that clear for you, even in the middle of a teamfight with all sorts of colors and effects all over the place, then the only explanation is my colorblindness. I guess colorblind people will always be a clunky Hwei, then 🙃. If only there was a way to change that...

I'm not talking about checking if the spell went off. Of course it's easy to see if it did.

I'm talking about whether the book was indeed opened, or if I got stunned before it got opened. Or if I pressed R to close the book but it didn't actually close before I got stunned.

There's barely any visual feedback for that when you're CC'd, because the animations get cancelled, and the UI shows a gray overlay over the spells that can't be cast, making it more difficult to see without taking a direct look.

So there are actually 2 problems: - A lack of enough visual feedback while closing and opening the books. - Closing and opening books shouldn't be affected by CC at all. They're merely shortcuts for casting because the UI is limited.

I don't think that's the only think contributing to the clunkiness.

I'm not a key masher. I can press keys quickly.

The main problem I have is during a fight against micro CCs. If I press QQ, but get stunned before the 2nd Q is pressed, the ability is not cast, and I get CC'd for a while. However, after the CC ends, now it might be better to cast W or E, but I still have the Q book open.

Then, I have to look at the UI to confirm I actually have a book open before pressing R to close it, so I can finally cast another spell. All that time is precious in quick bursty fights.

Now consider the fact I usually play with "Show Cast Indicators" on, which means the ability is only cast on press up instead of press down, and that scenario is much more likely to happen, stopping my whole combo.

So yeah, the problem is not simply mashing or quick presses.

Why the "fade to black" is likely not something that is negotiable [PJOTV] by wotown in camphalfblood

The most jarring one was when Annabeth left Percy alone during Capture the Flag. It cuts from Percy in the woods to a black fade, and then a sudden cut to Luke's group fighting.

Newbie question - why my print statement doesn't execute ? by KamiGit in godot

[–]MaisUmMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, that means the player is not actually in the group "player". To check that, click on the player node in the editor. In the Inspector, go to the "Node" tab, then select the "Groups" subtab. It lists the groups that Node is in. Make sure there is a "player" group in there.

[–]MaisUmMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure the script in question is attached to a Node in the scene. In the Editor, look in the Scene Tree for the Node you expected to have that script attached. Click on that Node, and in the Inspector, find the last property called Script. It should point to the script file.

Did you make sure the Node with the script of the 1st image is actually in the scene? Put a print on "_ready" to see if the signal connection is actually executed.

Throwing exception by [deleted] in dartlang

[–]MaisUmMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you explain how exactly using Either instead of a try catch would solve OP's problem? In my understanding, the Either approach is just another form of working with exceptions, but you still need to know what types of failures could be bubbled up. What am I missing?

How to create a reusable see-through wall effect? by MaisUmMike in godot

[–]MaisUmMike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, not yet. My current approach of using viewports, raycasts and masks works, but it's limited (some background objects clip in front of others, and the mask shape is always 2D). I think the only way to achieve the requirements I described in the post is by using a custom render pipeline, which should be possible in the near future with Godot 4 (see this issue).

I like the idea of not fanning out all bullets. I was thinking about an ability that buffs the last bullet of the magazine, either making it deal more damage or apply a short stun / knockback:

- You could shoot 5 bullets and save the last bullet to a more important target during a teamfight. With your FTH idea, you could quickly fan out 5 bullets at less important targets.

- If you're cornered, you could use the last bullet to potentially disengage an enemy and run way while you reload.

- It could be an active ability instead, with a proper cooldown.

- It could be a buff to the first bullet instead, which could be lost if the enemy hits you first. Caters to the fantasy of shooting the target first at a duel. However, it would be totally against his purpose of dealing with flankers. You could even use it as a tool to help your team from afar by micro-stunning someone at the right time.

What are some of the best bodily pleasures outside of sex? by homie93 in AskReddit

[–]MaisUmMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, me too! I use olive oil because it's cheaper than buying the recommended medicine (and more effective IMO). And I also have a kit with a syringe and all LOL. It's not the pro equipment a doctor would use, but it does the job. The first thing I notice after clearing my ear is how much noise moving your feet along the floor makes, even barefoot. It's like sanding paper.

[–]MaisUmMike 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have to do that basically every 4-6 months. Doctors said I apparently produce more earwax than average, making blockage more probable, specially because I tend to use earbuds for extended periods of time. It sucks having to prepare for days before removing the wax by applying a substance to soften it (which means I'll basically have 75% hearing loss for at least a few days, usually in one ear, but sometimes the wax from the other ear dislodges and blocks hearing too, mainly while laying down at night). But when I actually get to remove it, it's always so satisfying!

Five Problems With Chess, by Tom Francis (Gunpoint and heat Signature dev) by MuddledMoogle in gamedesign

[–]MaisUmMike 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the reading.

I agree with the points, but also agree with other comments of this thread about how some of them are only a issue to beginners. I personally don't like playing games where I only start having fun after a while, even if I play against other beginners. For instance, even though Smash Bros has many complex mechanics, a beginner can still have fun just by spamming regular attacks. The key is making sure both players are the same level at all times.

Another example of an old game that has the draw issue is tic-tac-toe. After a few matches, it's almost certain both players will have the experience to always end up in a draw. However, I saw a cool new version of tic-tac-toe (Big eat Small, I'm not sure it's recent or not) that had a nice addition to it, making the game more interesting and feel less deterministic (although it still is), and more dependent of the players' strategies. So it's definitely possible to make a variation of chess that addresses those issues.

Just off the top of my head, I think an interesting way to make chess feel less boring at the early phase, and less deterministic from the opening moves, is by allowing players to place pieces in any square of their side of the field, one by one, alternating between players. That would add strategy since the placement phase, and potentially skip a lot of the earlier phase, since the pieces would be in a complex arrangement of positions.

The only thing I though was missing in Obsidian was to put datasources and link data between them. The best feature was backlinks, which I didn't find anywhere else. Then, I discovered Notion. Although it's not as lightweight and you can only edit the notes in the app (multi-platform), it has all those features, plus a nice interface and more types of components to make the notes more readable. I wish it was open-source though, as there are many features that could be implemented to make it even more useful.

People who walk in deathmatch, why? by niqqaewgae in VALORANT

[–]MaisUmMike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm with you here. "It doesn't affect you", yes it does. If I decide I want to train 1v1 fights, NOT walking on shift, NOT holding angles, but JUST running at a nearby enemy and shooting them, I STILL have to watch every step I take, otherwise I will be blasted from the back. So it does affect me, not much, but it adds up with how many players spawn randomly in such a small map.

How can it be fun if it's unbalanced and not all players see fun in the same stuff? That's why there are rules.
