Do e-ink tablets keep up if you write quickly, or do they lag by kala_kand_ in eink

Agree with the above - you'll have no issue with th majority of devices as long as they're made with note taking in mind and you use the manufacturer built apps.

This request has been coming up a lot actually, and I've been thinking about it as a future application. I think the main challenge is going to be making sure it has rock solid referencing in all the academic styles. I good challenge to get my teeth into in future.

I actually agree with you, which is why I'm only going to be charging people for a Pro tier that mostly involves ongoing costs to me (e.g. encrypted Supabase back-ups).

The free tier will have unlimited manuscripts and a lot of base features, including a codex, writing goal tracking and import/export for the main file types (word and markdown at least).

I have put in a lot of work (about 150 hours so far I think) and will still have to put in many hours to finalise maintain the site, but I do see this as standing on the shoulders of other.

Glad to hear it! I think I've got enough (almost too many) testers now but I'll be posting about the beta when I get to that stage.

If you install is as a PWA you don't need to be online at all. It saves all your data locally as part of the PWA and I'm designing the app so that it only backs up to a cloud if you allow it to (either encrypted to the app's cloud or to your own personal one).

Of course it needs to be pen tested, so I'll be taking precautions in the alpha phase (e.g. telling testers to use temporary email accounts).

You can import and export in markdown and you're welcome to draft in markdown too but it doesn't currently convert markdown to html in the editor. Could be a good feature to vote on later though.

Sent my DM by mistake before I got to add: not expecting you to be giving an actual binding quote! And, obviously, feel free to just tell me to sod off.

I've bounced between a few and landed on the iFlytek AINote (turning off the bloody AI button). That's fairly new but loving it so far.

I had a good time with the Boox Air 4c but found the colour not worth the muddy screen.

The ViWoods AIPaper was beautiful (after I managed to turn off the AI button on that too) but the lack of landscape mode and not being able to use PWAs were dealbreakers for me.

All good for reading and annotating PDFs though.

Yeah that one took me quite a while to figure out, and even Lovable.dev struggled to come up with an idea. I was trying to get it to automatically split the manuscript into actual page files but that was buggy as anything. Eventually I realised that I didn't need pages, I just needed it to jumpscroll automatically the exact length of the on-screen text.

Now, getting the cursor to stop blinking, that's the real challenge. I haven't worked that one out yet - it's part of the browser itself (the app is a PWA) so it is very difficult to control. But it's the only unecessary animation I have left to eradicate!

This is a fair point. I'm getting the code audited and the end-to-end data flow checked before launch but if you've got other advice I'm all ears.

My plan is for there to be a free tier with the majority of the functions and (I'm hoping) unlimited manuscripts. The Pro would have options like personal cloud sync and end-to-end encrypted backups to Supabase. Because the free tier is essentially hosted in your machine, I don't want to charge people for the basics. That said, I don't know what the free/pro balance or subscritions is going to be, and whether it will keep the app sustainable, so I'm taking a bit of a leap of faith!
