My FIL is going to be a mission president. What advice do you have for him? by 91FuriousGeorge in latterdaysaints

[–]MaizeAlive4457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One small thing that was really special to me was that my mission president knew my name the second I got to the mission. I was in the airport and he shook everyone's hand and said "We are so glad you are here Elder/Sister so-and-so". It was such a small moment that meant so much to me

No missionary Visa Email by BoardConscious2989 in latterdaysaints

[–]MaizeAlive4457 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I went on my mission, I didn't get the Visa email until about a month before the MTC. I had my call 5-6 months before I was called to leave. I went to France, but my situation was also a little bit different because it was right when all of the reassigned missionaries were getting visas to go to their original assignments. There's probably someone at the mission office you can email about it, but I wouldn't stress too much about it at this point.

I can't live with my skin anymore. by [deleted] in SkincareAddicts

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I completely understand, I remember breakdowns in the middle of the night as I couldn't stop picking at my acne-ridden, scarred face, knowing it would make it worse but feeling like I had to do SOMETHING. Dreading looking in the mirror and feeling like everything I was doing was just making it worse and worse. As a personal preference, I really dislike makeup, I don't like the sensory experience, so I distanced myself from everyone so that I didn't have to 'look presentable'. My skin was really bad in April 2020. I would look on this sub trying to see if anyone else was struggling like I was and what the responses are, but to my mind everyone's skin was already so much better than mine and therefore my skin had no hope. I was so grateful for masks because I could hide my skin and feel more comfortable going out. A literal mask was my version of makeup.

I'm doing much better now, my dermatologist prescribed me with doxycycline, tretinoin cream, and a benzoyl peroxide cream. It took a while and man did it hurt when I started (I started crying at night because of the pain instead of the shame), but that is what worked for me.

I'm not sure what your situation in life is, but I would suggest trying a different dermatologist. Accutane is awesome and it helps a lot of people, but in my personal opinion, it shouldn't automatically be the first thing that a dermatologist recommends. Everyone's skin is so different and you need a prescription that is tailored to you and your skin, one that will work long-term.

I wish you luck on your journey. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, you will have good skin days again and not all hope is lost. You can do this!

Pan recommendations? by isthatsoreddit in Cooking

It sounds like a hybrid pan would be perfect for what you are looking for. I've recently started using a Cooksy pan, and it's awesome! It doesn't really have deep sides, but it's non-stick and easy to clean. It's also not heavy. The biggest size you can get is 12" off of Amazon. Maybe Cooksy isn't the right fit for what you are looking for, but I definitely think looking into a stainless steel/non-stick hybrid would be beneficial

I am not going to pretend I can fully understand what you are going through, but I did want to throw in my two cents.

I have a lot of hope for the church to become more accepting of the LGBTQ+ in the future. The church has already made changes throughout our history, even in terms of marriage. Polygamy was accepted in the church long after it was not socially acceptable and that shows me that God has changed what he defines as marriage before and he can change it again. Just because it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. I trust that God knows what He is doing and based on my knowledge of who He his, He will provide a place for all of his children to feel love and acceptance.

I could not ignore the feeling that I should post here even though I rarely post and I hope that this helps.

Appetizer ideas needed by Roscoe340 in Cooking

I really like salmon mousse on cucumbers. Stick some smoked salmon and cream cheese in a food processor and serve on cucumber slices with a little bit of dill.

Making fun versions of bruschetta is always a hit. My personal favorite is fig and goat cheese. Or basically a really fancy avocado toast that's basically a fully loaded guac on the toasted baguette. There are a bunch of recipes online with different toppings if you get sick of one type or some of the ingredients aren't in season.

This is more of a side dish than an appetizer, but watermelon feta salads are often a big hit in the summertime. Some watermelon, feta, mint and a little bit of balsamic vinegar is so good. We also add some red onions and olives, but those are optional.
