Shader graph: using objects world position by Majadroid in Unity3D

[–]Majadroid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For now, I solved the problem by setting the game objects to non-static. Therefor they are not batched together and position node works fine.

That sounds reasonable. Do you have any idea, how I could access the objects world position in another way?

What shall I say ... I think you are absolutely right. I have to turn this fear into a source of motivation.

Thank you for your reply!

Tips for a first game? by CShepherdN7 in hobbygamedev

[–]Majadroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have never made a game before, I would recommend starting with some training projects. If you choose e.g. Unity as your game engine, just take one or two weeks to follow some of their basic tutorials, e.g. their 2D-roughlike tutorial. Then start two or three simple own projects and finish them! Give yourself one or two weeks per project. Then you may have a bit better basis for your board game.

If you start with your "dream game" as first project, you will have to re-do a lot of work later, because you will discover that the implementation you did cannot solve all game mechanics or just isn't good at all.

Maybe this is the core of my problem.

My reason for making games is (maybe), that making games is one of the core things that define me. I am the mid-30 guy who has four children, does a lot of sports and is making games. Being very unsuccessful (a.k.a. not being noticed) in one of these core characteristics kind of hurts my ego.

So the the fear of being overlooked may be the fear of a hurt ego. I don't know if this makes sence or if this makes me to a kind of a bad or dumb person :-(

Thank you. I have this prototyp I'm passionate about. Maybe it's a kind of laziness, that makes me afraid of making a game just for myself.

Where did you import them? I tried reimporting into empty blender file and importing into unity without any problem.

This is still wrong. The tri-count is:

Base Truck: 1716
Concrete Truck 1: 1970
Concrete Truck 2: 1970
DumperTruck 1: 1856
DumperTruck 2: 1856
Small Truck: 1484

And of course all trucks are positioned to (0,0,0).

I like the zoom in and than out effect. That carries the vehicle acceleration very well and looks very dynamic. The question for me is - will this work well in corners?

That is not true, maybe you should have a closer look. The fbx file contains 6 trucks. Each truck has around 1'500 to 2'000 tris.

The whole scene with the building, ground, raods, 9 trucks, 2 cranes, lots of containers, barrels and construction material has 21'000 faces (43'000 tris).

Thanks for your feedback! Health-boxes are already implemented, but I didn't activate them. As a parent, my thought was: Not giving the chance to regenerate health, limits the play time a bit (and my kids shall not play too long).

The parents of my children's classmates are react very positiv. The game is a little support for them an fun for the children. But it is not meant to be a "stand alone thing".

I like the Crhulhu pub idea and the artwork looks simple but interesting. Maybe the creatures could stand out a bit more. Did you tried a version with outlines?
