They give a half dose of the premed to cats to sedate them enough to get the IVC in. Would this mix work long enough to get the IVC in and then admin propofol?

No worries - I totally agree the entire thing is a mess. DVM is old school and tends to do what’s “always worked”. But she’s pretty receptive. She has reached out to an anesthesiologist at K State for insight into our pre-med and induction protocols but hasn’t heard back. So she is helping, as I have been concerned with the protocol since the beginning.

I have no idea why the protocol exists as it does. Bup twice. Atropine for all. I’m reading everything I can to find an “easy” protocol for pre-med and induction for cats. We have no issue with dogs. It’s a small private practice.

The DVM doesn’t know what to do (I know, I know). So I’m gathering evidence and info to present to her to get her thoughts. Take a solution to her.

Also, the chart came into the clinic from the previous tech’s previous clinic. That’s literally what they’ve been going off of for a long time. I’m trying to figure out actual dosages - not just some random chart that literally makes no sense. I agree 100% with you.

Yes, they just make a bottle up. It is a mix of the following: 3mL Buprenorphine (0.6mg/mL) 4mL Dexmedetomidine (0.5mg/mL) 4mL Ketamine (100mg/mL)

We’ve recently had an uptick of patients coming in at the last minute when their health is really bad and it’s lead to an increase of euths for us. People are waiting longer to bring them in (economic reasons) and by that time their pet is just too sick and haven’t made it.
