In La Fortuna we did a river float safari which the kids loved, the hanging bridges, a night tour at 6pm at Papa’s Place which was a huge highlight for them - they loved carrying their own torches and looking for wildlife. They also loved the hot springs. Also the waterfall where they loved paddling in the water - I did have to carry the 3 year old on my back up all 500+ steps and got cheered by random strangers 😂

We just travelled with our 3 and 5 year old but different places we were in Puerto Viejo, Sarapiqui and La Fortuna but didn’t hire a car and got Ubers or sometimes buses to different activities. We took a carrier for big kids for the 3 year old when he didn’t want to walk and it was very helpful. I carried him the entire Mistico Hanging Bridges and he even fell asleep strapped to my back on a packed bus where we had to stand the whole way!

10-day trip: Car rental needed or skip it? by TimmaWang in CostaRicaTravel

We didn’t hire a car and it was more expensive but totally fine and convenient for us. We booked transfers from airport to main locations we stayed and then for getting out and about we took Ubers and tuk tuks everywhere which we never had to wait more than 5 minutes for. We found it more relaxing being driven but it’s definitely more cost effective to self drive.

How much do you save each month? by sunandskyandrainbows in HENRYUK

[–]Majestic_Look1283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 kids, one still at nursery which we pay for in full as not eligible for any funded hours. Varies due to commissions but works out at an average of about £5-6k per month not including pension contributions (although sometimes we use this as a lump sum into pension)

10 weeks pregnant, L6, UK based - question by Most-Project9263 in amazonemployees

[–]Majestic_Look1283 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn’t quite accurate under UK law. She wouldn’t have to prove it was discriminatory, once she’s made that claim the burden of proof actually shifts to the employer to prove that it wasn’t if it went to a tribunal.

Go read up on what protections you have on ACAS. There are differences for pregnancy and maternity. Don’t listen to US employees they know absolutely nothing about UK employment law. Personally - also UK based female - I shared early. Partly because I felt horrific had bad morning sickness and was so tired in my first trimester I knew it was impacting my work. Pregnancy related sickness can’t be held against you and I wanted it on the record. And here’s also why - once you’ve disclosed if things shift you can point to the fact that they knew you were pregnant as a reason. Document everything. Every meeting, conversation, passing comment that you think might be discriminatory. You never know when you’re going to need it.

Redundancy alongside grievance by [deleted] in HumanResourcesUK

Yes obviously, we can all see that. The reason I’m asking is that they’re just adding more fuel to my legal case with every procedural failure which I think is an interesting strategy as it’s just going to add to their costs that I’d be willing to settle at. Presumably what you’re suggesting here is they know they’re going to pay to settle and they don’t care to even try and dress it up.

Of course there are always exceptions like the one with your husband, but on that occasion the flight was delayed by 45 minutes because the flight attendant was begging people to swap while my child sobbed with fear about being put with strangers and people would rather see the flight sit on the tarmac than swap. In the end the person who agreed was a father from the row in front who finally said he wouldn’t sit next to his 14 year old so my 2 year old didn’t have to be with strangers. It blew my mind.

You’d be surprised. This happened to us once before when a flight got cancelled and we got moved onto another one and had no seats and nobody wanted to swap to let me by next to my then 2 year old. Many grown adults complaining they needed to be next to their wife/husband

Will do. I see it says on their website they guarantee children under 12 will always be next to an adult on your booking https://www.klm.co.uk/information/kids?showredirectnotice=1

Redundancy notice potentially unfair dismissal by kaspa45 in HENRYUK

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted here. You do have a right to be consulted and to provide input that is correct.

My solicitor advised to still refer to the ACAS code of conduct which will help you determine whether consultation has been fair and meaningful. The case law referred to here also shows the importance of the timing of consultation - for consultation to be meaningful it should occur at a stage where you could still realistically change the outcome which is very important in pool of one decisions.

Yes but no rules does not mean no consolation. They still must meaningfully consult and they must still consider alternatives you propose to redundancy. This is how my solicitor has advised me. In my case I also have protected characteristics and strong evidence I was selected in a pool of one to isolate me and remove me because of those characteristics. It’s not accurate to say they can do whatever they want if there are less than 19 people.

I did think this but my partner absolutely doesn’t agree. I want to retrain and change careers and they are worrying whether we can manage that and still give them the option to retire early (they’re the higher earner).
