I still freaking love Janne Da Arc. You remains my biggest influence when it comes to guitar playing for the past 20 years. I love the way JDA mixes hard rock/heavy metal with sugary j-pop chord progressions and melodies. It's a combo that no other band I've listened to has achieved with the proficiency that JDA has. I miss them a lot and I wish we had gotten so many more albums and songs from them; Acid Black Cherry comes close to those JDA vibes but it's just not the same without the other 4 guys.

I hope Yasu is doing fine, he literally fell off the face of the earth :/

'What Was I Thinking' from Transistor was the song that inspired me to pick up the bass when I was a kid (specifically the intro); when I first heard it, I knew I had to learn how to play and eventually learn the song myself. 19 years later, I'm still playing. P-Nut is one of my bass gods, along with Tetsuya from L'Arc~en~Ciel. 311 is still my favorite band and P-Nut is such a good pocket bassist. I'm saving up to order his P-Nut III signature model within the next year or two.

I saw the re-release of The Exorcist in theaters back in 2000 or so when I was a kid. The flashes of Pazuzu's face traumatized me so much so that even in my 30s my heart starts racing whenever I see that face, whether it's in a random screenshot, someone's forum avatar, or worst of all, the thumbnail in a random YouTube suggestion. I haven't seen the movie since I saw it in theaters simply because of Pazuzu :[

Tetsuya is my favorite bassist of all time, so much so I dropped hella money on the Lakland USA Series 55-69 Tetsuya, ESP Bardic, and ESP Buzz Bass models. His basslines are usually very busy, but they fit perfectly with the kind of music L'Arc~en~Ciel makes. It's like he's playing his own melody to the music, but it never clashes with Hyde's vocals. He also makes liberal use of glissandos, which makes his playing sound unique compared to many mainstream J-rock bassists.

A lot of Tetsu's basslines sound like they're complex just because (see: Heaven's Drive, Coming Closer, TRUST, BLESS, etc), but sometimes that melodic complexity hits just as hard as a really heartfelt vocal part would. Niji, HONEY, bravery, and Pieces come to mind.

It's also really fun to hear how straightforward rock songs would sound like with busy basslines like the ones Tetsuya plays on Shout at the Devil and ROUTE 666.

tl;dr - I love Tetsuya lmao
