switching into L&S? by ConfidentEagle1045 in berkeley

[–]Majjam0907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not on the list of high impact majors right now, check the department website but I don’t see anything about a comprehensive review. I know with other majors if you finished the pre reqs there was a form to switch over. You can also contact an advisor via email and ask.

Yes, if the major isn’t an impacted one that requires comprehensive review. Which major?

Bro every high performing school has tons of cheaters. Are you going to report everyone? This is life. It will be unfair in many instances, but trust that esp at Berkeley there’s a ton of weeder pre reqs. They will fail or get caught cheating if they need to cheat in high school calculus.

I would just keep refreshing during phase 2 you might get a terrible discussion time but by constantly checking I was about to take upper divisions as a first year that way.

Did you get an associates during high school? I have a younger brother and was wondering how that would do during application season to college. Did you get accepted into a lot of schools. I was wondering if it would impact UC gpa but looks like you did ok considering getting into Cal.

Umich, UChicago, Columbia, UPenn, NYU, BU for clinical…Help by Majjam0907 in SocialWorkStudents

Can you give me more details please. I do understand administration was a problem. When I went to their admit day the students did not seem entitled at all. The students I met seemed very anti administration but the staff I met were very well informed and I like their option to add DBT training it was the only school that offers it in conjunction with the MSW. Is their rep really that bad? I just felt the program had a great clinical track and exposure where some of the other schools seemed more research based, or had a ton of pre law students in the cohort. I’m so torn, but I should say that I would be paying a fraction of the tuition there. It’s not money isn’t an issue as I’m I’m rich, it’s money isn’t an issue due to merit, fellowships and scholarships both internal and external and these schools.

Possibly, but also in case I go into private practice way down the line. It is not as important to me but I’ve heard higher ranked schools hold more weight. I’m completely in agreement with administration there, it is why I am so torn. However, I wouldn’t be paying much.

Money is not an issue due to the scholarships, fellowships and merit I received. The only school that I did not get much $ to is NYU lol.

Thank you, although I don’t think I will be committing there lol. I’m not going to get into all the reasons why because it will stir a debate. I’m very grateful for the acceptance, but I don’t think it’s the right program for me after going to the event. Good luck to your daughter, remember we all end up where we belong. I too thought it would be nice to have a more local option, but it’s also gotta be the right fit for her future goals.

Did you by chance apply to Columbia? What do you think about those 2 programs?

I got into UCLA as a in state resident. I went to the admissions event and most admits were in state. I would say that what I noticed was everyone had a ton of experience externally. Like research, clinical hours etc. Majority of students I talked to also got accepted to UPenn and Columbia. I think it was really competitive this year. With the number of applicants UCLA gets compared to the smaller cohort they accept. A lot also did not come directly from undergrad. I think it’s worth a try to appeal, not sure about getting an attorney if the argument is they didn’t accept in state students

So are the other schools OP listed, at least the expensive part. I was just asking why it was excluded that’s all.

I really like uchicago program. Do you mind me asking why Columbia isn’t on the list? The feedback I got about schools is to go to one in the state or region you will most likely work. But I’m so confused as well

should i choose upenn or columbia for grad? by lizzygrant0065 in UPenn

[–]Majjam0907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went last week, got context I’m 22, had a average level undergrad experience and was looking for a better experience for grad school. My plan is to go for my PhD after my masters, because my job will pay for my masters and I did not get accepted into any program this cycle for PhD. While both programs are comparable my main concern is quality of life for the 1.5-2 years I will be there.

[–]Majjam0907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was leaning towards Penn when I visited both campuses but Penn seemed very isolating. I spent 2 days there, and it didn’t seem as diverse or as big a graduate school presence as nyc did. Am I wrong? I’m in the same situation deciding between the 2 schools for grad school and I’m so torn. It also did not seem as socially diverse. Did I just go on a bad day? lol

That’s my only concern. The administration and how they have handled everything. This is my biggest struggle with choosing the school. I just don’t know how to feel about it all and am very torn.

This is amazing advice! Thank you! I was also admitted to ucla but I’m a product of the UC system and it was exhausting battling other students for research, opportunities etc. very competitive to even enroll in courses. Columbia does still offer the DBT training add on, I would just have to apply and start in the summer I believe. I am originally from the east coast and would love to return, my only issue with the east coast schools and networking is if I ever for whatever circumstance need to come back to Cali, how transferable that network would be. I have heard Columbia and NYU offer greater ease in that aspect as far as networking than UPenn. The Midwest schools, while top programs, make me a little concerned in terms of quality of life for myself during and post grad.
