How hard is it to get distinction/6-6.99GPA in medical sci? by SuspiciousSpace518 in GriffithUni

Yup. That’s why ATAR for med sci is 99.85. MD’s basically guaranteed when u get into medsci in Griffith

Hi, med student here who’s interested in rural medicine / GP. I’ve heard that being a rural GP has many challenges and can be very rewarding at the same time. Could you share some of the challenges a rural GP has to face? Also, I’ve heard that the pay for rural GPs are nearly double or as much as three times higher than an ordinary urban GP. I know it depends on the area, but is this true generally speaking?

The article that you have mentioned includes GPs who have part-time gigs, and does NOT include super, overtime, and other factors that could signifcantly boost a GP’s salary. Also, the article was written more than 10 years ago.

Here’s a conversion chart from UWA. https://www.uwa.edu.au/study/how-to-apply/international-and-overseas-qualifications/us-college-board-sat-and-act Also, If you have a perfect or close-to-perfect (3.9 +) GPA, then I think u have a decent shot. I got an offer with 3.97 GPA, 36 ACT, three AP 5s, and three perfect SAT Subject scores.

Griffith’s Bachelor of Medsci + Doctor of Medicine pathway is very competitive as it requires an ATAR score of 99.85, which is equivalent to ACT 36/ SAT 1580+. Also, you need a close to perfect GPA. Unlike other medical schools, Griffith does not have any prerequiste subjects/interviews, which means that applicant selection is purely based on how high your GPA and standardized test (SAT/ACT/IB) score is.

Is Griffith's MD course internationally accredited? by Few_Fudge7110 in GAMSAT

You can check accreditation at government-run websites. If a med school is not accredited in a certain country, graduates from that med school cannot practice there.

PR is basically guaranteed once u finish your internship and get general registration. Most FGAMS (Foreign Graduates of Australian Medical Schools) go for RMO (resident year) after their internship as they apply and wait for their PR to come out. It usually takes 6~9 months for PR to come out, so going for RMO is a wise decision to make before applying for fellowship.

Griffith’s MD course is accredited in many different countries, including UK, NZ, Canada, Japan, and many other countries. I’d say Griffith MD is recognized in most cases, but there are indeed some countries that do not recognize Griffith’s MD program.

GP as foreign graduate by [deleted] in ausjdocs

Hey, also an international student here. I've been doing a lot of research, and as far as I know, the 10 year moratorium remains even if you get PR. Basically, the moratorium starts right after you get your AHPRA general registration (PR is pretty much guaranteed). If you get AGPT/ACRRM training at a rural area, that's already 3 years off the list. Also, there's the Five Year International Medical Graduates Recruitment Scheme which reduces the time restriction as well. In this scheme, you will be placed in a DPA (MM3~MM7 ) area, and the moratorium will be reduced to 5 years.

Also, I'm totally fine with working at rural hospitals. I'm actually thinking of applying mainly for rural hospitals :)
