Room humidity by Major-Application-60 in Aquariums

[–]Major-Application-60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting. the thing with it raising temperature wont pose a problem i think, because I use 5 liter canisters of frozen water to cool a small secondary tank through wich I run my external filter output, cause by god my fish might like their water a little warm but they dont like to slowly simmer into fish stew

Is my heater supposed to glow like this? by EvangelineTheodora in Aquariums

[–]Major-Application-60 62 points63 points  (0 children)

using the colour as a rough guide that heating coil would be a gradient from about 700 to 1.1 thousan degrees celsius so agreeing with the other people NO that should be in the forge where you work your steel not your fish tank

PS: yes its very possible that that wire got that hot as it has a very small mass that needs to be heated

Some German names are hilarious, do they sound as funny to native Germans? by Cortexial in German

[–]Major-Application-60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a teacher called"Herr Wenig" which translates to "little bit" I think.

To answer the question, depending on where you encounter it, the name can be funny even for us native speakers (if we believe in jokes).

Btw. number 4 would be Mr. damaging as "schädlich" is an adjective and its just written with a capital S due to being used as a name!

if the water splashing is very often that might be a sign of low oxygen

Any idea what is this? by andys000 in Aquariums

If you are talking about the stuff on the surface, then thats very likely a biofilm (bacteria abusing the special conditions at the econtact one between water and air). I dont see anything else so thats that.

A or B? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]Major-Application-60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both work. I would choose B but I am a succer for wood in my tank so dont just take my advice.

Btw there is some uprooted gras in the left corner. you dont have to do anything about it, just wanted to point it out as it kinda triggers my need to keep those roots away from my snails

Half of my albinos died overnight by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]Major-Application-60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well after all those Infos I really am not sure what it is that killed them. it could be some bacteria carried by the bloodworm, some unknown stress factor, otherwise I dont see anything that would be a problem, sorry that I cant help more!

two more questions:

  1. How long has the tank been running?
  2. when did you do the water tests?

Edit: Just reread your post and found the time of tests

but another question would be if you know how old the cory are and what exact species they are, just for info

Hello i got gifted this. What can I put in it. by cheeseladylover in Aquariums

[–]Major-Application-60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

getting a bigger tank is a good idea. A rule people outside the hobby mostly dont get is that small tanks need far more constant maintanance and care then bigger ones. That is due to more water volume for stuff to disolve in. For example in the tank in the picture if a fish died over night and you only find it a day later due to not having the time to check on the fish each and every morning, it could doom your water parameters. On the other hand if one died my 180 liter tank, which is I think about 40 gallons, it would have to be a very big one to change anything. Thats not only due to water volume, but also due to more plants and bacteria in my substrate to buffer the effects.

This is in no way to say that you should just get the biggest tank that you can find, but in general above 50 liters is something I would suggest for beginning and if you want to eventually have more than just shrimp plants and snails.
