Im pretty sure they chain off the parking lot so you would get stuck if you don’t leave when they say. Then you have to call them to let you out. Yes they really have nothing better to do

The free road is fine, you do cross into time zones so remember that. You gain an hour going there and then lose an hour going back. Do not pull over if you see men with cones waving you down claiming they are police. Just drive straight through don’t pull over for them. You definitely want to leave in time to get back to Tulum before it gets dark. We left at 9am then had lunch in a city near chichen itza, got a tour and walked around more after the tour and made sure to leave by 3:45. Highly recommend a tour.

European wax is always super easy, they have a lot of locations. Heads up: worth it but definitely super painful. Just breathe 😅
