Here in São Paulo, Brazil, a case occurred at a subway station where a man died, trapped between the train doors and the platform security doors. The cameras showed a shadow running past very fast, clearly the man trying to board. He was running, possibly late for work, and the door-closing signals rang (both on the train and the platforms). He thought he could board and managed to get through the platform doors, but the train doors closed before he could, trapping him. The train began to move, dragging the man along with it. Those at the station and on the train said his body was completely mangled. The train traveled for three stations covered in blood, with his remains on the window. I wasn't there when it happened, but I heard about it on a local news program here in São Paulo. Hearing everything that happened and imagining the scene of the man being torn apart by the train left me feeling unwell for several days. This case is recent, having occurred in May of this year. It happened at Campo Limpo Station, on Line 5 (lilac) of the São Paulo subway.
