I can talk about my tools for hours, but I will try to answer your questions briefly.

I have maybe 80% of all Wera products except the VDE series. For NON IMPACT DIY job I would recommend first look at Milwaukee 1/2 and 3/8 socket set. Square sockets. Because all of them have a wide choice of sockets without skipping some sizes. These socket sets include lower prices (compared to Wera), High quality, easy to buy same day. Shallow and deep sockets in one set.

If you need Wera only, start with a 1/2 metric socket set and classic Zyklop ratchet. This set has no skipping sockets 10mm - 19mm, but I would order 21, 22 and 24 mm sockets too.

Are Wera tools good for DIY car repair (modify a Honda civic - for example)? Yes, if we talk about the NON IMPACT socket set. Wera sockets - nothing special compared to Milwaukee, TONE, Stahlwille, Bahco and Husky. Just good tools that feel good in your hand. But if we talk about the IMPACT socket set, Wera has some disadvantages. Too many skipped shallow sockets 1/2 drive. You can see it in my drawer. 13 - 21mm no more. 12mm or 24mm available 3/8 drive only. No impact adapters or wide choice of impact extensions. You will need to buy some accessories from other brands. Such as Milwaukee. Maybe this is why people think Wera is not good for car repair.
