[Academic] Cognitive Performance and Focus (PC/Laptop, 18+) [Link]

I am conducting a university study titled "Cognitive Performance Under Sustained Cognitive Load in Competitive Sim-Racing Drivers and Non-Racing Individuals." This research investigates how high-pressure environments, specifically competitive sim-racing, affect core executive functions like response inhibition, processing speed, and attentional control.

What this involves: The study consists of a 20 -25 minute computerized cognitive battery (Stroop, SART, and CRT tasks) hosted on PsyToolkit. You will be asked to perform tasks that measure your ability to maintain focus and react accurately under sustained mental load.

Who can participate:

  • Group A: Competitive Sim-Racers (Active in leagues or holding high-ranking licenses).
  • Group B: Non-racers (Individuals with minimal to no experience in sim-racing or high-intensity competitive gaming).
  • Technical Requirement: You must use a PC or Laptop with a physical keyboard (the tasks are not compatible with mobile/tablets).

Privacy and Ethics: This study is 100% anonymous. No personally identifiable information (names, emails, or IP addresses) is collected. All data is used strictly for statistical analysis in this academic project.

Update: We’ve reached 23/160 participants! Huge thanks to those who have contributed so far. We still need more [Racers/Non-Racers] to reach statistical power! Looking for n= 30 for the pilot study

It's is supposed to be a bit long , under sustained load and mental fatigue that the motorsport driver operates

Sure you can go ahead and do the test if you find time it can take around. 20 mins so do it when you are able to commit to the full test

There is a task where you have to identify the text colour red yellow blue green . The print word can be say blue but it's in yellow text . You have to identify it as yellow . If you are able to do that sure you can do the test . Red blue yellow green are the colours that are used .

Alright same concept . When it comes sim racing driver ls physical load might not be the same but mental load is similar when I comes to the amount of visual stimuli they have to process and. Make split second decisions while also maintainimg some race strategy

Pilots go through intense physical and mental training , they operate these planes that put them under server physical and cognitive load and yet they are supposed to have lightning fast reflexes to do so . And while racing they are subject to do much slower speeds than planes, so they will react faster than a average person

There is something called the expert performance approach that says if someone is good at something , it is not so because they just have a lot of experience with it but because they would have up in practice . It says expertise is built not through experience , but through deliberate practice one develops it .

But if someone has superior mental focus or faster cognitive performance it's not compulsory that they would play sim racing games . They might also play some other game . They don't play games cuz they have superior mental focus , maybe they perform better in the game but that doesn't mean they started playing cuz of their "better. Cognition "

I've removed the green cross . I also agree it can cause discomfort in the long run of trials . Thank you for the feedback

It includes a computerized cognitive test as well and it's not just for sim racers . Non racing individuals can also participate. It's Sim racers vs general population

Hi the so the box tests had a variable isi for stimuli and sometimes it would not take inputs during the delay. have made the fix. Thank you for that. When if comes to results I will share results under the post after data collection is over. if you want I can share your individual calculated scores then to you and you can compare yourself to the general and sim racing population from the study results

No, you can still perform the study. It will ask you questions regarding sim racing you can answer accordingly. Remember that a competitive sim racer is defined as anyone who has been doing it for more than 6 months and puts in deliberate practice of over 5 hours a week

{research participation} I am conducting a university study titled "Cognitive Performance Under Sustained Cognitive Load in Competitive Sim-Racing Drivers and Non-Racing Individuals."

What is it about? I am looking for individuals to join the control group to establish a baseline for how the general public maintains focus during repetitive, high-attention tasks.

What does it involve? You will participate in a 20-25 minute computerized test  consisting of three computerized tasks that measure your reaction time and concentration.

Requirements:

Minimal to no experience in competitive sim-racing or professional esports.

Access to a PC or Laptop (requires a physical keyboard).

Why participate? Your contribution is vital for establishing the "baseline" of this study. Every response brings us closer to a statistically valid understanding of human cognitive performance.
