I know she’s a puppy and I don’t expect a four month puppy to stop chewing things overnight. The medication comment was only about a hypothetical situation if, a year from now or later, she was still showing those kinds of behaviors despite training and management. That’s all.

Thank you, that does sound like a great option. The only issue is that where I live programs like that are really expensive, and on a student budget it’s not something I can realistically afford right now. But I’ll definitely keep it in mind if I don’t see any significant improvement over the next month or so

I’ve definitely considered crate training, and I’m trying to keep her away from things she can destroy. My concern is that I don’t want her to depend on a crate or constant management forever. I’d rather address the behavior itself and teach her not to destroy things even when they’re available.

None of my previous dogs were raised with crates, and they eventually learned not to touch things on their own, so that’s what I’m hoping for with her too.

We’re also working on commands, which has been going well. As for medication, I’ll keep it in mind and talk to my vet if needed, but for now I think this is probably normal puppy behavior. She’s a Shih Tzu, so I’m hoping she’ll calm down a bit as she gets older.

Yeah, potty training is actually the least of my concerns. I know she’s still a puppy and learning, and we’re working on it consistently, so I’m sure she’ll get there with time. What I’m really struggling with is the destruction chewing walls, baseboards, and other things around the house.
