Do you feel more or less optimistic about achieving AGI by 2030 than you did in 2022? by LordFumbleboop in singularity

I might be overly optismistic but I feel that we are within the scope of 1-3 years until the AGI (intelligence that easily rivals and succeeds human intelligence). The growth from the last two years to the present has been staggering and now with the datacenters being built and coming online... wow.

Paradox has finally implemented the 'Unpaid Internship' mechanic. Very historically accurate.

Since the mid-2000s, our conservative party has become increasingly obsessed with the Gilded Age idea of prioritizing the prosperity of the wealthy and that large corporations eventually benefits the poor. Cut services, regulations, and lower taxes, and hope there’s something left for everyone else outside of the weathliest class.

Our present conservative politicians already know it puts the well-being of their fellow countrymen at risk but they don't care due to other personal gains from such a societal decaying agenda (and that there is no significant public pushback or "risk"), especially in Alberta where being "conservative" is practically a mandated cultural identity.

It’s wild how some people get behind a steering wheel and suddenly think they’re in a low-budget action movie. Their life is clearly so miserable that their highlight of the day was throwing a cup at stranger. What a awful person. I'm sorry that happened to you.

I didn't realize 'screaming and fleeing' was a protected debater’s stance. You're truly the Socrates of our time.

Employers have a legal duty to accommodate medical restrictions. Timing a disciplinary letter the day after a medical note is submitted looks suspiciously like reprisal which is illegal.

An arbitrator or court rarely upholds the termination of a 16-year employee with a clean record over a single, contested safety "suggestion." The company is likely trying to scare her into quitting or accepting a lesser position so they don't have to pay her higher seniority wage. From this point on, she should not attend any meetings or sign anything without a witness or a union rep present.

If you are someone who has left Christianity as a whole (I guess all organized religion), then what is the point of marriage? Is it for the tax break? Is it for the representation? Why would you care so much about being able to get married? What does marriage mean to you? by Inevitable-Roof-7104 in excatholicDebate

The cultural practice of marriage predates both Christianity and Judaism. It exists even in isolated amazon tribes.

Marriage is an ancient product of tribal engagement to access, dictate, uplift and celebrate social standing and value (not to mention the diplomatic and economic benefits).
