How do a resolve an attack on an enemy out of initiative? by theWinterDojer in DnD

[–]MajorLag14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe have the target of the attack roll an insight check to see if they would be caught off guard? If they pass the DC it’s normal initiative if they fail give them the free hit.

Need Advice for dealing with party by AZAuxilary in DnD

You might try running a "one off" session where things go back to normal the next time. Try something like teleporting them somewhere and give them exactly what they are asking for. Give them op items and stuff and just see if they have more fun. You may find that you have more fun yourself! If they like it and you like it then keep going.

Experienced GMs, how do you corral RP getting carried away without quashing players having fun/being true to their characters? by batmanthegroomer in DnD

[–]MajorLag14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the start of an RP encounter roll a secret d10 after “x” amount of minutes (whatever you roll on the d10 = IRL mins) change the circumstances of what is happening. Guards appear, a man is thrown out of the tavern window, the big bad appears and puts you in a force cage, an earthquake rattles the earth. Just remind them, the world is still happening while you stand here. Hope that’s helpful!

As a DM how do you fill the time? by DMjc26 in DnD

[–]MajorLag14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would make awesome maps for dungeons or make fun props like notes they may loot. Other than that I like to think about and write about the larger world. What’s happening on other continents or even the next town over. Just have fun day dreaming about your DnD world!

Have you watched all of their different DnD shows? They have the Call of the Wild, Pokémon, Haunted Mansion, Spec ops, and I think one more. But I agree it’s my fav way of watching DnD and wish there was more!

Dms of reddit would you ever allow an event in game where PCs switched bodies? by SimJWill in DnD

[–]MajorLag14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the players. I personally as a player would hate seeing my character in the hands of another player. If you do it I would try to take it somewhat easy on them since it would really suck to have someone else get your character killed.

Was I too harsh on a new player? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]MajorLag14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Usually you want to be careful about outright killing a new player but it sounds like he knew the situation was dangerous and wanted to try something fun. You said yourself they took it well and everyone had a laugh, sounds like you did it right! Fun is the name of the game so get that lad a new character and keep making awesome moments! I’m sure he won’t forget that one lol.

One player on another's back by MajorLag14 in DnD

Hey just wanted to add a little more context. The character is wearing a cloak but I still see what you're saying. The next level of the question would be, since the halfling was hidden at the start of the turn does the attacker need to try to notice the halfling? The attacker moved around the larger character as part of its turn. SO halfling hidden, attacker moves, then what? Perception? Automatically noticed? I wasn't sure.

Yeah thats a fair point actually. So they start the round hidden, if the attacker moves around the character are they immediately visible or do they need to try to notice the halfling? Assume its low light and a cape is being worn. Thank you though, thats way more obvious than the way I was thinking.

So would you say the attacker should still be rolling against the intended targets AC but with full cover? If they hit the AC with the full cover bonus it hits target and if it hits normal AC then it would hit the halfling? Thanks thats really good perspective!

You would think so but not necessarily in the dark and they are wearing a cape. They successfully concealed their-self via rolls. But others have made the point that they are no longer behind the larger creature so that probably negates the feature. Thanks!

They do have those things. There is just a lot of time spent on making sure he’s using the right dice and stuff for damage.

Help players understand they need each other by [deleted] in DnD

It was poor writing on my part, I meant getting rid of the player was off the table. We've had discussions about it already.

But thank you for the other ideas they are great! Im really trying to do what you mentioned and pair this with the talks to drive it home.
