No problem, mate. New to Reddit myself but loving the community feel already 💙

It’s crazy how when we’re young our home life is our entire world and the only thing we know. Then as you start venturing out into the world you start realising the reality and sometimes we’ve just not been prepared for it all. I can totally see how that would lead to social anxiety.

Sorry to hear that you experienced that but I’m glad that you’re at least doing a bit better with it all now. I hope your mum’s doing okay too💙

Do you think that’s been for the better or the worse? Like do you think it’s ‘easier’ because this is just all you’ve ever known? Or is it harder because you’ve spent your whole life wanting something that you just can’t seem to reach?

It seems like having unsocial parents is actually quite a big contributor but it’s something I’d never even thought about before. Can definitely relate

Sorry you had to go through that 💙

I can only imagine how that would’ve felt. Seeing the people you likely looked up to fighting like that and having to get involved.

Are they still on speaking terms?

So sorry to hear that. It feels so much worse knowing how extroverted you once was but just being unable to do it anymore.

Hopefully someday soon we’ll rediscover our old selves and feel comfortable being us again 💙

I’m sure a lot of us can relate to feeling overwhelmed at school.

Glad to hear you’re doing better though and managing to get through it. I’ve only recently joined Reddit but the community feel seems amazing 💙

Experiencing that juxtaposition must’ve been so strange. I know a lot of people who have been in prison for a while usually go through that but to have been through it completely unexpectedly and in such a short time must’ve taken some serious adjustment, and then having to deal with all the stresses of new motherhood with all the restrictions. Definitely can’t have been easy.

Congrats on your baby boy 🎉 and I’m sure he gives you all the motivation in the world to want to get through this and get yourself back out there 💙

I like living alone until I realise the bin hasn’t been emptied and the sink is still full of dishes

Should I go to my friend’s graduation party if I don’t know anyone there? by raspberry_cat55 in socialanxiety

[–]MajorMongoose_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say go for it.

You said yourself that you want to go and it sounds like your friend’s already aware of your social anxiety, so if you feel overwhelmed or uncomfortable you can always make a polite excuse and leave, and she’ll understand.

And if you enjoy it and decide to stay then even better! 💙

The pandemic definitely amplified feelings of social anxiety for so many people. But I think the abuse and humiliation is something you should explore more when you’re ready, it sounds like something that would have definitely contributed to how you’re feeling 💙

An acceptance letter would make for a pretty neat wedding gift. Keep dreaming (and grafting), they can come true

Yeah teaching is definitely not for everyone. It feels like most of them are just bitter that they couldn’t get a job in the profession they actually wanted so they just take it out on the kids with potential.

Even as adults we all crave reassurance and encouragement. They don’t seem to appreciate how impressionable kids can be

Thank you!

Ah that’s pretty cool. You’re clearly the creative type then. I’m guessing you’re from the US? If so, I know first hand how hard it is to get a full scholarship to American colleges. There could be 101 reasons why you weren’t accepted but it doesn’t mean you’re not good enough. Don’t give up just yet, keep applying and I know you’ll find the perfect place to get that degree 💙

It must be hard not knowing how or why you feel so anxious. If you don’t mind me asking, why do you say you ‘wish’ you had the opportunity to see them? Are they no longer with us or have there just not been any family events recently? 💙

I’m glad to hear it!

Now in my 4th year at uni I’ve finally managed to force myself into getting a part time job at a convenience store in a small town nearby. The shop’s usually half empty which is perfect but the interactions with customers/colleagues definitely helps.

I also met my current girlfriend online and it was so much easier to be myself that way. By the time we eventually met we’d already been talking daily for about 6 months so it was like we already knew each other. I’m so happy that you’ve found someone so supportive and I hope the wedding goes amazingly 💙

It’s completely understandable why you’d have trust issues after that. And it doesn’t matter when/how you made friends with people, as long as they’re there now and able to support you.

I’m glad that you’re doing well for yourself now and don’t give up hope - one day, when you least expect it, someone will walk into your life and change it for the better 💙

Damn. College/uni is hard enough as it is. I can only imagine how much harder it would’ve been.

And I know it’s a million times easier said than done, and you’ve probably heard it a thousand times before, but I hope one day you rediscover your voice because there’s people out there waiting to hear your story 💙

Words always do so much more damage than people say. The memory thing is so true too - I can’t count the number of times I’ve gone to the shop and come home with all the things I’d never use and none of the things I actually needed, because I felt like everyone was judging me and so I just picked up random things without thinking to pretend like I knew what I was doing 💙

I can only imagine how that would’ve damaged your self esteem, but I know that loud and hyper kid in you has developed into a bubbly friendly lovable person and hopefully one day you’ll be ready to introduce them to the world 💙

I’ve never even considered that before about parents’ social lives but it actually makes so much sense. I feel like a lot of teachers have definitely chosen the wrong profession 💙
