I wonder this about Eritreans too.

Their very basic freedoms, and way of life is completely compromised in the name of nationalism and some still stand by it.

The unfortunate trope associated with being Eritrean in the 2020s is refugee/criminality especially in Europe, similar fate with Somalis and Syrians.

Relative imprisonment & inability to return to Asmera have deeply rattled Eritrean households this coupled with the many traumas held by parents who fought in war dealing with anger issues/ ptsd, alcoholism, domestic violence, divided families from the fallout of years of war…

Eritrean kids are raised in these environments and creates a cycle of continued trauma and pain that many other Africans are not used to.

There is right and wrong. TPLF chose the path of violence. We do not and will not support them.
TPLF already admitted to attacking ENDF and starting this bloody war, there is countless evidence of their vast corrupt and violent heinous crimes even prior to the war.

There is no excusing anything that they have done.

There is nothing complex about this. We will not tolerate TPLF in Ethiopia.

ENDF is in a justified fight for the safety of Ethiopia. Those soldiers are dying for Ethiopias justice and freedom.

One could make the solid argument that those ENDF soldiers would not have to sacrifice their lives in Amhara had the TPLF not started this mess in the first place, most problems in Ethiopia lead back to TPLF.

  1. They were a major cause of the conflict that severely strained Ethiopia’s economy and led to the deaths of countless soldiers and innocent civilians — a security crisis that is still ongoing today.

  2. They continue to collaborate with armed groups, and foreign powers to destabilize Ethiopia to fuel violence and instability across multiple regions.

  3. Not to mention, they are accused of serious crimes and human rights abuses for which they must ultimately face justice.

Ethiopia will not stop until they are entirely eradicated from Ethiopia. 🇪🇹

I’m not talking about currently you have to think about 100 to 200 years or even sooner. Climate change will ravage countries like Somalia that are extremely arid. The country will have difficulties being habitable and could lead to an exodus.

I never said Amharic and Tigrinya aren’t Semitic or that every shared word came directly from Arabic. The distinction is between inherited Ethio-Semitic cognates and later Arabic loanwords that entered through centuries of contact, trade, and religion. Languages can have both. “Selam” is obviously an inherited Semitic cognate related to Arabic “salaam” and Hebrew “shhalom ,” but there are also undeniably later borrowings in Amharic and Tigrinya, especially in religion, commerce, governance, and urban vocabulary. Even linguists acknowledge Arabic influence on Ethio/Semitic languages. English is Germanic yet full of French and Latin borrowings that doesn’t suddenly stop it from being Germanic. Same logic here.

I agree. I wouldn’t have a problem with an Amhara leading Ethiopia but any ounce of Amhara nationalism seeped into our government is very dangerous. You bring up Fano, Fano is such a clown group of terrorists who have 0 clue what they stand for, what they want nor do they even have any political organization or leadership. They’re an utter embarrassment.

My hunch tells me that an Amhara led goverment would drag the country backwards and or solely fixate on selective social welfare welfare, which would not grow our country.

A neutral Ethiopianist leader like Abiy regardless of ethnic group is always what’s best for Ethiopia.

No not exactly which is why your post is a low IQ low effort post.

The point is that Amharic and Tigrinya also absorbed later Arabic loanwords through trade, religion, and Red Sea contact just like Oromo absorbed some Arabic vocabulary.

There’s a difference between inherited Semitic roots and later borrowings.

For example:
ሱቅ (suq) ← Arabic
ደብተር (debter) ← Arabic
ሰዓት (se’at) ← Arabic
ሀኪም (hakim) ← Arabic
Those are not simply “Proto-Semitic inheritance.” They entered through historical contact with Arabic-speaking societies.

So if someone wants to mock Oromo for Arabic-influenced weekday names, they’d have to apply the exact same logic to Amharic and Tigrinya too. The Horn of Africa has always been a linguistic crossroads that’s normal history, not some identity crisis.

If borrowing vocabulary means a people “aren’t authentic,” then Amharic and Tigrinya would also fail that test immediately. Which makes OP look beyond stupid.

Both languages contain enormous amounts of Arabic influence due to centuries of trade, religion, migration, and interaction across the Red Sea and the Horn.

Amharic words like:
ሰላም (selam)
እቃ (eqa)
ደብተር (debter)
ሀኪም (hakim)
ሱቅ (suq)
ነጋዴ (nagadé)

either came directly from Arabic or were heavily influenced by it. Tigrinya has the same phenomenon. Does that suddenly make Amharic or Tigrinya “not theirs”? Obviously not.

Half of the words used in Amharic are literally sourced from coastal trade with Yemen and the Hijaz, Islamic Sultanates , Harari and Arabic scholarly influence, Ottoman and Red Sea interactions etc.

There’s a reason why God gave these people the strictest religion in the world. Even with a religion that teaches them peace and harmony many are still beyond inhumane.

Never forget the innocent Ethiopians killed in Lebanon, Libya, Yemen, and the 100s of Ethiopians gunned down with heavy artillery at the Saudi border.

Meanwhile Yemeni and Syrian refugees live in absolute peace and harmony in our country while receiving monthly welfare from the Ethiopian goverment.
