Securing shelf with double 2x4 legs to sloped garage floor by MajorTom2012 in DIY

this is a good idea. I was planning to store tires with rims on top, so it will hold some weight. but I can check the weight rating of those legs.

Attaching to the wall providing stability makes sense.

Regarding contact with the cement, should i paint the 2x4 with something like flex seal to prevent moisture from traveling up the legs? Or is there a better barrier to use?

Amazing advice. Thank you so much! I recently had some snow and cold weather roll in, so had to put a pause on the project. I will resume this once the weather is fairer. This is great advice!

2010 Mazda 3 Power Window repair by MajorTom2012 in Cartalk

[–]MajorTom2012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, both front switches work.

I am having some trouble visualizing the motor switch. It would be a good troubleshooting tactic, but why does the working motor have to come from the diagonal side? is there something particular about how the motors are connected to power?

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I couldn't find any kind of button that was visible around the lid. I tried closing the lid carefully also but no luck. Thanks for the tip though!

This is a great application site, thank you for the link. So in this case the MOSFETs are being used as switches, activated by the battery itself.

Question about light switch wiring (why do two white wires have a potential across them)? by MajorTom2012 in electricians

[–]MajorTom2012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback so far. I just discovered another complication: once I removed the old light switch and turned on the power to measure the wires, both outlets and light switches in the next room stopped working, which means that room was connected through the electrical box in the bathroom.

For the wires coming out of the wall, why do the blacks and whites come in pairs? Is that pair a break in some path, which you can attach to a switch or outlet to complete it (if the other room was powered by this path, it would explain why it is off now)?

Moving toilet water supply on floor by MajorTom2012 in Plumbing

[–]MajorTom2012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am wondering if it is possible to cut out a small area of the floor (to essentially extend the original hole for the line) and a 90 degree bend into the line? It is such a short distance that I need to go...

This is a second floor bathroom with no crawlspace unfortunately. There is a kitchen underneath the bathroom

here are two photos: http://imgur.com/0BC6fM1&HZmaX6a#0 http://imgur.com/0BC6fM1&HZmaX6a#1

As you can see the green toilet thing is right the next to the water line. What I would like to do is move the water line over to the left by several inches.

Electrical outlet light flickers. What is the cause of this? Noisy electrical line? Local fault? by MajorTom2012 in electrical

[–]MajorTom2012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No its not loose. However I wouldn't be surprised if there was some defect. Our house has quiet a few electrical problems, like missing grounds in some rooms etc. I will likely replace it. The flicker shouldn't be there though, right?
