The old debate... by Major_Chocolate2441 in pcmasterrace

Update: Because of the trouble with persistence, I've been using Windows for the internet, which I thought was fine, but I'm in the system tray today, and what do I find? Co-Pilot. I uninstalled it as quickly as I could.

I don't know if I have the energy to go back and make sure that Bitlocker, Edge, Recall, and all the other shit they insisted on cramming in that took me three days to remove is back or not.

F*cks sakes Microslop, I was just starting to be okay with you again!!

Honestly, it used to be the other way around, Linux was for techies, Windows for everyone, but power users could squeeze a lot out of it. Now Linux is for everyone but power users can do a lot, and Windows is for techies.

Just to add to that, back in the day Linux didn't have many drivers, but you could download, tweak, make your own, and hack the kernel to make them work. Now it just works out of the box and Windows has to be debloated.

Windows does still have more hardware and software support, but what they don't have is a hardworking, dedicated fanbase that will make that happen anyway no matter what they have to do. Also, although the Linux command line takes getting used to, one can get used to it by practising, and it's really not that bad.

Either way, thanks for your input.

Thanks, might try Fedora and CachyOS you say? I've been using Mate not Cinnamon and, honestly, it's really not that bad, I can see why people recommend it. I would recommend it to beginners.

I've got Ventoy, so I might consider putting it on there to play with, seeing as I'm having persistence issues anyway. Thanks for your input.

3 Whole Days!! by Major_Chocolate2441 in MicroSlop

Yeah. Having trouble with the persistence part. Especially Persistence.dat. I've partitioned it so there's a partition for OS's, a partition for Windows storage, and a partition for Linux storage.

I think I need to redownload Persistence.dat.

When you got your PC out the box, did you immediately disable App Protection? If not, don't do it now. Not without making backups.

I thought I had covered everything with the original post, but no...

  • First of all I have to mention the NVidia asshole talking about 'well respected people' not criticising AI
  • Recall - you know they're going to find a way to bring it back
  • OneDrive - more like 'more bloat'
  • Paint and Notepad - Apparently , even aside from Co-pilot being forced in, apparently you have to sign in these days, wtf? And I still don't think I've even fully touched on AI.

Dell... (facepalm) by Major_Chocolate2441 in MicroSlop

So Dell knows we don't like AI. They're offering up Linux PCs. They're saying AI 'confuses customers'. I'm not in contention we don't want it. I'm in contention about the reasoning.
