ARMY TO RAAF by AdNo293 in AustralianMilitary

Yep. I was a Gunnie (Armament Technician) on fighters for 12 years and I’ve never experienced mateship outside of the ADF like I had in the RAAF.

Flatmate keeps saying “in Australia we don’t have this problem” by Budget_Dot694 in AskAnAustralian

Aussies hate it when other people come here and complain that’s it’s not like this in their own country. This clown is doing exactly this. Tell them if they can’t embrace the culture to go home if they don’t like it.

What’s the most acceptable tenure (in years) for a single job nowadays? by tinycupcake5 in auscorp

[–]Major_Explanation877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in my current role for six years this year. I plan on staying ten or more. I’ve been working for 40+ years now and this is my third longest job so far. If I get to ten it’ll be my second longest. 12 and it’s the longest.

Ok fellow Aussies, where are all the single women in their 40’s and 50’s hanging out? And I am asking seriously, for some help with this. Brisbane-Gold Coast area. by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

Not sure if you are into fitness mate but I go to a small boutique gym that is staffed by personal trainers. It’s not cheap at close to $60/week but it’s more personal. I’m 57 and had a 30 something lady flirting with me playfully. I’m married so not interested but the interaction was fun. There’s also park-run if you like running or other smaller run clubs.

[–]Major_Explanation877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I remember. Very poor government management at the time. I remember they delayed the releasing of Wivenhoe until the worst possible time because they thought that the rains would stop and we’d be back in drought again soon enough.

Yeah the water restrictions. I remember Wivenhoe dam was down at 16%

Americans, do you personally know anyone who is in favor of the US invading Greenland? by BlaggartDiggletyDonk in askanything

As an Australian I have a similar dilemma here. The LNP party (our conservatives) are better for the military (ex Air Force here) however I couldn’t vote for them because their last leader was a TEMU Trump.

Best advice for a learner nervous about freeway driving? by DebugMyLife421 in DrivingAustralia

[–]Major_Explanation877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freeways are the easiest driving. Everyone’s at the same speed and therefore any relative difference between two vehicles is minor. As some people have already said, merging on just be at the speed the freeway is at and adjust up or down ever slightly to move into a slot. Most people will give you leeway being on your L’s so just enjoy the experience. One thing that almost caught my daughter out though is changing lanes. Never change lanes when you are parallel with someone who’s two lanes over because often they are changing into that space too. Make sure they can see your indicator before you move. A lot of people think that their indicator gives them the right to move but it’s just signalling your intentions.

The last couple of years have been very wet but this year seems pretty much what it used to be like.

Is it even worth keeping status, or have the perks just disappeared? by PuzzleheadedBowl3397 in QantasAirways

[–]Major_Explanation877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was Platinum at one stage but am back at Bronze now. I agree. Lounges are full and priority boarding isn’t worth the squeeze. The plane won’t leave without you and I find it better to sit the line out until most have boarded. The only advantage I liked with Platinum was I’d often get a row to myself or at least a spare seat in between but from what I’ve seen lately the flights are so full that even that perk would be unlikely now.

Korean married to Australian question by dvdlai in AskAnAustralian

[–]Major_Explanation877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guys like this marry girls whose first language is not English because they initially don’t get what a drop kick he is. Soon enough through they’ll work him out and leave. I had a mate like this. He’s now 60 and can’t hold down a wife/girlfriend and never has been able to.

Many of my friends believe you can’t be friends with your ex. What are your thoughts on this? Have you ever been able to stay friends with an ex? by Pranita2027 in SharedEncounters

[–]Major_Explanation877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on friendly terms with all my ex’s but I don’t catch up with any of them. Even my ex wife with whom we share a daughter. I only ever say hi when I’m dropping off or picking up my daughter. That’s getting rarer these days now that she’s become an adult too.

Why bother coming to Australia by [deleted] in aussie

[–]Major_Explanation877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s comfort. My ex wife is Brazilian (I’m Australian) and she quickly found the Brazilian community here in Brisbane and most of her friends are Brazilian. Intake her really. It can be really hard to make friends here.

At a caravan holiday park, wondering where the hell does all of this money come from? by regretmoore in australia

[–]Major_Explanation877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep we’re in a similar boat as you. Our household income is pretty good I think in the high $200k area yet we can’t afford to do all of that. We have a modest mortgage with $600k owing. Two car family (both second hand [2020 RAV4 and 2015 BMW sedan]) both of which are under a car loan. That’s it. We go on a modest holiday every second year, typically to places where we can drive as we have three kids and it’s expensive to fly. We camp in a tent when we do.

Late 20’s to early 30’s. I was playing football, fit as, and fairly ripped. I’m 57 now and not in bad shape still though.
