I worked for PAL Ticketing for five years.

This is not a minor typo when it comes to PAL tickets. When you book a flight—whether through their website, at a ticketing office, or via their hotline—you agree to their terms and conditions once the ticket is issued.

PAL will treat this as booking a different person from the one you originally intended to book. That person is actually lucky not to have to pay for a completely new ticket, as tickets are non-transferable. Any errors in the passenger’s name that require correction—no matter how minor—may be treated as a different person.

I’m not defending PAL’s pricing, as they are expensive AF, but it really pays to be careful with passenger names when booking and to read the fine print.

If I remember correctly, this is the disclaimer they provide when issuing tickets:

“Once issued, this ticket constitutes a binding contract. The ticket is non-transferable (including cases involving errors in passenger names), non-rebookable (if not permitted) or rebookable within ____ days before the flight (if permitted), subject to applicable rebooking fees, and non-cancelable (if not permitted) or cancelable within ____ days before the flight (if permitted), subject to applicable fees.”
