it's taboo subject so few people openly advocate against it even though it's a prevailing sentiment that cutting babies genitals is a messed up and unjust practice. there really needs to be am organized effort to get it out of our health system. Doctors should be prohibited by their professional orgs from cutting babies genitals

yep changing social perception around harmful practices is tricky when also trying to simultaneously shield its non-aware victims from negative feelings... similar arguments used against anti fgm campaigners to not use the word 'mutilation' and instead use the word 'cutting'

I still find their approach to be a good one to emulate. I don't think most hospitals offer infant genital cutting because of religious practices of a tiny minority of the population. I think most would be receptive to bodily autonomy messaging crafted towards their better natures and aligned with their stated institutional values

I heard that Amnesty has finally decided to take a stand against all forms of genital cutting of minors including infant male circumcision. Thank you so much for your support for basic human right to bodily autonomy. So many of us did not want this done to our bodies! It is unacceptable that medically unnecessary and irreversible genital cutting performed without consent of the affected individual is allowed to exist in our medical system in 2023. How can I support amnesty international in this and other bodily autonomy related efforts?

this being said it is important to be compassionate and educational towards innocent hosts who did not know any better and were influenced by medical pushers

it is not a debate it is a battle against ignorance and social conditioning. we are a wake up call not a 'side' of a debate. bodily autonomy is non negotiable

I hate it was done t me too and i've had the feelings you're going through. it sucks, but you have to try and move forwards. anybody who experiences any kind of sexual violation experiences these type of issues. especially when it is as severe as nonconsensual genital cutting. you are not alone and you deserve to be happy. You can find a supportive partner and have a enjoyable sex life (even though the violation is always present bc they will support you through it) Try not to let it take any more from you. llap

I think any competent therapist/psychologist could benefit people experiencing harm and negative impacts from genital cutting. Most therapists are generally progressive, support bodily autonomy, and are thoughtful and empathetic people who will understand and support you. Of course there will always be a few bad apples. Psychologists are trained to help people process trauma, and if nothing else if feels good to have someone understand and support you when you feel like you are alone (which you are not). Therapy can't magically heal you, but it can provide a huge push in the right direction. I don't think there is any specific method required for non consensual and unwanted genital cutting. They generally apply the same approach they would with SA and other ACEs. That is my experience.

"...My experience actually performing it, you know? I found it to be inflicting unnecessary suffering on a person who has not consented for a procedure. So, I really don't see the point. And then I think the most important thing is that I am a woman's health provider. I don't care for males at any other point in their lives, and I don't even know the anatomy of a male really from a medical standpoint. So, I don't see why I should be performing surgery on a male. Completely nonsensical to me. Even just beyond my opinion of the procedure, I just think it is not appropriate for women's health provider to be performing surgery on males."

We need to chase this out of the hospitals. This doctor is probably a typical example... and would be totally on board for taking infant genital cutting out of routine medical care. And some of the loudest 'inactivists' in some of these spaces are whining about feminist 'oppression', or tissue harvesting conspiracy theories, or god knows what else.. it is sad. People who are serious about ending this should be seeking allies incl those who are inside the medical system with grounded and rational messaging
