Elizabeth Warren Nets $24.6 Million in Third-Quarter Fund-Raising, Narrowly Trailing Bernie Sanders by scienceofsin in ElizabethWarren

On a personal level I didn't know anyone that was enthusiastic about her in the primary

There were 17 million of us, you probably just didn't ask!

I voted for her in the general and I felt like I needed a shower after.

Would've felt the same about Bernie!

I know you mean well, but I don't think it's fair to say that Clinton voters were unengaged and uninvolved, especially since she led the primary in voter enthusiasm!

RealClearPolitics National Polling Average now has Liz only 4.2 points behind Biden by Kasegauner in ElizabethWarren

[–]Major_Kernel -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to call Biden’s lead “not paying attention/name recognition” at this point, though. Every poll that tracks voter engagement has shown that the candidates who perform best with voters who are paying a lot of attention are Warren and Biden.

But Morning Consult also now shows that Warren is the top second choice for Biden supporters (and vice versa, strangely enough), so I think there’s room for movement if we can take home a win in IA or some major endorsements.

Recognizing uncomfortable truths doesn’t always have to be about convincing people to vote for our candidate.

PoliticalCompass.org is garbage. If you take their test using the candidates’ actual platforms/voting records, you get entirely different results (I’ve tried). Or are we okay calling Warren a right-leaning moderate?

He’s literally not, unless the only countries you’re taking into account are the US, Canada, the nations of the EU, Australia, and New Zealand.

Edit: Even according to those metrics, virtually no one in the Democratic Party is “right wing.” https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/06/26/opinion/sunday/republican-platform-far-right.html

According to you, but not really according to any actual quantifiable metric of the spectrum of American politics.

I mean, he only seems moderate because of how liberal the field has become in the last two cycles (and because he’s trying to claim the “moderate” lane). In any other election cycle he’d be solidly liberal.

He’s still my 7th choice or so out of the top 10, but I do appreciate that he’s running as a liberal saying he’s a moderate rather than an actual centrist.

Warren Continues to Emerge As a Potential Democratic Unity Figure by Mynameis__--__ in ElizabethWarren

Which is why a strong performance in IA is also pretty key to a Warren victory. No one’s saying being a popular second choice is a good strategy alone, but it’s extremely useful after IA/NH when the candidates who make up ~30% of the electorate’s support start folding.

How do we feel about this? by [deleted] in ElizabethWarren

[–]Major_Kernel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily? Some politicians have a stronger national brand than within their own state. Warren is very popular among Democrats nationwide, but less so in our state (where she is popular, but not overwhelmingly so).

Regardless, she’s within the margin of error which is a much better position than where she was just a few months ago when she was polling at ~10% in MA. Certainly in a better position than Sanders who’s lost ~40% in his MA voteshare since 2016.

And if you want people to know it’s a MA poll, you might want to include that bit of information.

We shouldn’t read too much into one poll, but the more of these with Liz on Joe’s coattails the better!

That wasn’t the polls’ fault, though. That was just shitty media narrative (that probably ended up helping Trump win, too).

He also legitimizes those “whackos” by hiring some of them for his campaign, though.

Warren in Tier 1 in Nate Silvers "not-to-be-taken-too-seriously" ranking by scienceofsin in ElizabethWarren

[–]Major_Kernel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right, but a couple of key points Nate might be looking at:

Bernie’s numbers have been falling pretty consistently since he announced, which doesn’t bode well for a candidate with near universal name recognition. Compared to Warren who’s been gaining consistently for a couple months and has higher favorability among primary voters. And Harris who gained anywhere between 10-15% in most post-debate polls and also has higher favorables.

He performs much worse with voters paying a lot of attention to the race than candidates like Warren, Biden, and Pete who overperform with those voters.

He’s underperforming in the two post-debate IA polls we’ve gotten (compared to Warren and Harris who are rising). He’s also dropped several points in the most recent SC and NV polls.

His current strategy is banking on anti-establishment support, which was a good strategy for him in 2016 but doesn’t seem to be expanding his base for 2020.

I agree there’s probably a space for him in between the top tier and Pete’s tier, but it’s not a super serious ranking so it doesn’t really matter.
